Hello Experts,
It might be sly question but I wanna share my view..
I have being working with SAP SD for last around 7 years. But now I feel bit lazy to learn more about SAP SD how ever I know SAP SD is very vast and I can count many point/topics of SD in which I have very less knowledge.
Now I want to learn a module for which I can work for next 7- 8 years but problem is that I don't want to leave my SD. I want to learn new module in which I can use my SD knowledge as well. In this regards I started learning SAP CRM and to be very frank I did not feel much interest in CRM as much as I felt in SD, moreover I think it's not growing now as much, as expected.
The second thought comes in my mind, I should go for SAP GTS. I have knowledge of SAP MM as well which is also required for SAP GTS.
Now I am totally confuse, what new advance module should I learn SAP CRM or SAP GTS or something else.
If you have new/advance module apart from CRM & GTS, in which I can use my SD skill kindly suggest me.
I hope your suggestion would be very helpful for me.
Please guide me.
Thanks.

Hello Prashant Sharma,
I am a SAP CRM expert for more then 15 years and I like it very much. WebUI is already a few years old and this path might not be followed by SAP any more in the future but it looks much more modern than SAP SD in SAP GUI. Cloud for Customer is even newer and I think it has a promising future. But best might be to start being an expert in SAP SD or SAP CRM in SAP S/4 HANA with the new Fiori UI requiring new skills like Javascript.
Best regards,

Hi Prashant,
Its very good thing that as you like to learn new things up to date. As per my Experience and as you are a SAP SD Functional Consultant, You can opt for SAP GTS because It is very tightly integrating with SAP SD, MM, FICO, BI, CRM, HANA etc....... So as you said that you have CRM knowledge also right.. So you might be getting a chance to work on GTS by integrating with CRM and SD as well so, your desire will be kept safe ( Now I want to learn a module for which I can work for next 7- 8 years but problem is that I don't want to leave my SD.)
SAP GTS always depends on the Feeder System like ECC modules SD, MM,, FICO so GTS the system obviously needs to get the Data ( Master data, Transaction data) from Feeder system only in view of this, there might be a chance to work SAP SD and GTS simultaneously.
Please share your feelings further if any..
With Regards
Srikanth

Hello Srikanth,
Thanks for sharing your view.
I got few hours training in my office after that I also felt SAP GTS may suit me, as I have interest in SD, MM. In this regards I started reading a book "Implementing and Configuring SAP Global Trade Service" ..but unfortunately I did not get fully understanding on GTS. even I was not able to integrate GTS with SD & MM .. moreover we don't find enough material in SCN forum. Bad thing is I don't have any friend with whom I can discuss my GTS querry .....
Once again thanks to you.
Thanks.

Hi Prashant,
I'm sitting in the same shoes with you. I have been working as a SD/MM consultant since 2004, and I share the same concern with your for future career development. I shifted my focus to GTS 3 years ago, and now I'm working as a GTS inhouse consultant for a chemical company.
Regarding your question which way to go for next 7- 8 years, CRM or GTS? I would disagree to treat either of them as a 'module' like SD, MM, PM....in ECC. Both CRM and GTS are quite integrated system which has its own modules. For instance from function perspective, CRM has sales, service, and marketing. GTS has compliance management, customs management and risk management. I don't mean to overwhelm you with the complexity, but wanted to bring your attention to that you have spend way much time bigger than you spent on SD or MM. Better to involve in a project and get started with your option. CRM would be a good start even if you don't have a project to work on, as your SD knowledge will definately help. If I were you, I will go with CRM.
But for GTS, even if you have good SD/MM knowledge, which is only the basic things, it won't help too much. Setting up and connecting system is one thing, business knowledge is another. If you wanted to choose GTS. That's OK, please first familiarize yourself with export/import process, legal control, HS classification, customs declaration for different countries, trade preference, rules of origin....
The key message I would like to share is, learning CRM or GTS is just the beginning, the most important thing is better to have a project to start on. Otherwise, technical skills without solid business knowledge cannot make you go further. One more thing to mentio, there is much higher demand for CRM consultant than GTS consultant. Far few companies are running GTS nowadays especially like Asian countries like Inida and China.
