SAP Consulting Job Security

Hey all,

I’m supposed to be joining the SAP Career Starters program for SAP HANA consulting. I currently have a very safe job in these unpredictable times, and have yet to inform them that I will be departing.

I am hesitant to leave this job, as I know in the past SAP has axed thousands of employees, and with the economy doing so bad I can imagine only more layoffs will follow.

My question is how safe is this job at SAP NSQ?

Hi Tarance

Disclaimer: I can't speak on behalf of SAP or any other employer. This is my general view and perception. In answering this question, I'm not considering where the job is or who the future employer is.

SAP Security skills are in demand and there are a lot of opportunities - especially moving beyond authorisation build. Obtaining HANA security skills will be a good differentiator. Any access to the newer solutions along with S/4HANA and S/4HANA Cloud will improve your future employment prospects

How safe is your current job? Is it really so or you feel secure in it? I've witnessed family and friends position's end major restructures when none of us could ever imagine their job no longer being required.

But I get it... it's hard to leave a stable job and can feel near impossible depending on your personal situation and those dependent on you. Plus, we all like to eat and have other basic needs met. A regular pay helps that.

My advise to you: end of the day it's your decision. Is there someone in the recruitment process that you can chat with to see what the situation is? Are you able to obtain further information as to how the program is structured, etc? Is there a mutually beneficial opportunity to delay start of the new role for a few months to see what transpires - depending on the program intake it might work well for the employer or the structure may not allow it?

Finally, you'll need to decide on the risk and opportunity trade of? How much risk can you afford to take and is joining this program an opportunity that is worth it for you.

Good luck

Cheers

Colleen
