Hi All,
I am a CPA qualified accountant in australia. I have about 4 years of experience in financial accounting and have experience using AP, AR and Financial accounting modules in SAP in different roles over last 3-4 years. Recently I was assisting a SAP consultant in setting up SAP for newly acquired company and did a lot of master data setup for COA, CCs , etc
I have always been good at solving issues with SAP while in my role as a end user. I am now keen to get in to configuration end of the process.
I am currently interested in doing a FICO since it fits my profile
Can any body guide me what course to do and any institution particularly in sydney ? i couldnt find a good institute.
Also any job prospects on completion ?

Hi Ravi,
Be aware that Australia works differently from the rest of Asia Pacific. Your best bet is to contact SAP Australia's education department directly. In India and the rest of Asia Pacific, SAP pretty much forces you to go through an Authorized Training Provider (institute), but in Australia, SAP Australia handles much of the training themselves. The eAcademy courses are particularly appealing to some as they include system access. You'll want to take a close look at those.
You might want to have a look at the following blogs:
These might apply directly to your situation
Interesting Discussions to give you an idea of how others made it
There are a few blogs by other authors which I also think will be very helpful for you
I have a few more blogs which you might find interesting as well.
Hope this helps!

Hi Tom,
That was a very educational response.
I am going to start by thanking you for the effort and time you spent to respond.
In terms of my career, I am going to start reading some books on areas relevant to me to start with.
Meantime, at my current job we have recently acquired a company and I have been handling a lot of UATs and actual masterdata setup for a lot of fin accounting. It is giving me a fair experience of what entry level work will involve.
hopefully after reading a few books, planning to do Tfin50 and 52 ( given enough practise and study , so 3-6 months from when i start studying )
Then try and move into Finance-IT business support role within company and hopefully on gaining more experience move into consultant role.
This I believe is a long journey and where I will end up, only time will tell.
Thanks for your useful guidance.

Ravi,
I applaud your plan. So many folks go down the path of paying for expensive training on their own and then end up frustrated when they can't get a job. Then you read the stories in
and find out that the vast majority of folks who are successful in their quest for a career get the SAP job first, then get training later. It sounds to me like you are absolutely on the right path to migrate into the support group and it's very hopeful that the company will end up paying for your training eventually.
I put together a list of current books if you're interested at Learning SAP when you don't have an SAP job already - Books. If you don't yet have an MBA and are considering getting one at some point, be sure to check out universities that are part of the University Alliance. Australia has some of the stronger universities in the program. You'll see that direct recruitment from MBA programs is also a major onramp for SAP careers.
Kudos again on your approach and your dedication!
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
