Hi Sweath,

You have 6 years of system admin experience so based on your experience it makes much sense to go for BASIS but you need to check the job market before you take a decision. If you have taken training in BI then you can continue building your skills in BI also as it has good scope and you can also learn HANA as its new and its demand is going to be high in the upcoming years.

Good Luck.

Hi Nagarajan,

If I am right, I think Basis was used for legacy systems like R/3 and Netweaver is used in ERP 6.0. How learn of Basis will be productive for mostly used Netweaver scenarios at present ? Can anyboby please clarify my doubt ?

Hi Sarith,

The BASIS team performs the installation and implementation of different components of SAP products, Netweaver is an integration platform for many products. Typically in any organization you will have an Team in IT who normally take care of server & application installation and maintenance, in SAP the BASIS team performs activities such as (installation of SAP products, updating patches, performance tuning, ensuring availability of systems for business) etc.

Since you have worked for 6 years as a sys admin then you must have come across activities such as installation/implementation/patch maintenance etc which would help you catch up quickly with BASIS function. One should always take (academic qualification + experience + interest+ job market) before taking a decision of which module to choose. I know some people who were doing technical work took functional role because they liked it and that's what they wanted to do.

Thank you,

Hi Sweath,

While changing career/domain it is always a risk but it should be calculated risk. Do some research with friends/recruiters about the module that is in demand in SAP and then take decision. HANA is the new in-memory database from SAP, it is hot and many people are looking for training on HANA, in future HANA will be in high demand so a combination of BI+HANA will be good. Don't quit your current job till you get a job in SAP as many people quit and then suffer and have to wait for a long time.

If you feel you got some useful information from me then rate it accordingly.

Good Luck.
