Hello Sharada,

Sales background may be handy in new role Business Analyst. To be a successful business analyst, you must have the following addition skills:

* Expert understanding about the business processes

* Visualize the integration in other modules

* Good understanding the process flows in the system

* Adequate understanding about the configuration in your area

* Must always be good at numbers (Expert MS Excel / Powerpoint / Word) skills

Whatever career change you are doing, though money is a motivator, but it should not be prime motivator. You should have real passion doing new role. There is always ample scope to improve in business analysis, you can see yourself as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in next 5 years time.

Hope this helps you.

Kind Regards,

Ravi

Dear Ravi,

Thank you very much for the detailed reply, really appreciate it.

The main motive behind switching my career is that the difficulty in finding Sales jobs in London,as am new here.Pay is anyday secondary(atleast for me).

My worry is whether I will be successful in this changeover,as BA role will be technical I believe.

Would you mind suggesting me how and where to start?(you may share your personal email id if its okay with you).

Thanking you.

Hi Sharada,

I could understand the difficulty in a completely different and competitive market. The market in UK is very competitive not just for sales jobs, but for any type of jobs, as there are number of resources available. It does not mean good resources fail to find the jobs in UK.

Unlike other jobs, for BA you do not need to have a Certification etc. (though there might some certifications in the market on BA). If you are sales person, you should have good understanding about business wise as well as mapping of processes in SAP. Having good knowledge of end user transactions would help you. I would say business analysis is not just for SAP, it could cut across the technologies. Some clients might be having SAP, others might not. But, I would say most of the clients in the market are now with SAP. Therefore, it is always good to have reasonably good knowing in SD / Logistics areas.

Market is tough here. But, with your patience and perseverance, you could get a decent break.

All the best.

Kind Regards,

Ravi
