Greetings Expert,
I am Thanraaj. My educational qualification is MBA Marketing and B.Tech Automobile engineering. I have an experience of 9 months in sales [ retail sales - ICICI securities ltd.]. I have resigned my job now.
I am interested in doing SAP and so i consulted a SAP Authorized partner at Chennai. They are recommending me to do SAP SD module. The module duration is 25 days with a fee of 3.6 lac's. They are assuring for 100% placements too.
My concerns are;
1. Am I really eligible for doing the SAP SD module? Is my experience enough?
2. After doing this module and getting certified, what is the possibility of getting placed as a fresher in SAP SD with 9 months of experience in sales?
Kindly, assist me to take a right decision.
Thanks in advance,..

Hello,
I would say it is not bad but personally I think SAP CRM is much more modern then SAP SD. There is also an important marketing component in SAP CRM (and also a big sales component) while SAP SD has no marketing component. Of course I am a little bit one-sided as I am a happy (technical) SAP CRM consultant for 14 years. Are there no partners around you who assure you 100 % placement after functional SAP CRM training?
Best regards,

Hi,
Its a good Decision to opt for SAP.As stated by Thomas sap-crm covers the marketing concepts.
but for all implementations around the world SAP-SD is very important and almost mandatory.
most of the companies are not opting for SAP-CRM due to its huge cost of implementation and expensive license fee along with complexity.
most of the companies opting for third party CRM like sales force, seible and many more,in turn integrating with core sap.
you have more openings for SAP-SD than SAP-CRM.
its your final decision for the better option.

Hi Thanaraaj
They are assuring for 100% placements too.
I don't really know India Training Institutes but from noticing a pattern on SCN Careers Space I'm wondering how accurate such a promise is? Is this definite job placement or more assistance post training? I ask more out of curiosity and not to discourage.
With your experience, SAP SD or SAP CRM are both possibilities (they have already been mentioned here). Getting your hands on both is even better.

Colleen

Hi Thanaraaj,
I want to rephrase same thing what Thomas told here. SAP CRM is very good in market and it is going to lead the market in 2 to 3 years. Instead of checking for SAP SD, you can try SAP CRM Sales or Service.
It they are assuring placement then spending 3.6 lacs is not a big deal as you can earn with 4 to 6 months in India, if you get good salary.
Do not think... Just go with them as they are assuring placements.
Best of luck.

Thanks a lot Mr.Gopi. I inquired about opting to SAP CRM but they are responding that it can be done only after doing SAP SD. Is it so? Kindly clarify me about this.
Thank you

Hi Thanaraaj..
That's a key selling strategy... 70% of the people if you meet in SAP CRM they are directly trained and worked in SAP CRM.
They don't have enough people in their batch to train in SAP CRM or they want to sell this SAP SD to you. Tell them you are willing to do only SAP CRM or prefer to go other training center then check what is their reactions.

Is my experience enough?
Honestly, not enough to become as a SD Functional Consultant
They are assuring for 100% placements too.
Almost all training centers will give this promise because they dont want to lose the amount what you are going to pay. But at the end of your training, they will tell that if any suitable opening comes, will let you know by email. For this, you need to continuously follow up with them. If I am correct, statistics says hardly 1% of the student get placement through their training centers. Of course, there are certain IT firms who employ SAP freshers, give basic training to handle tickets and put you in some project. For this, you are prepared to give an undertaking for couple of years. If you ask me which one to choose whether SD or CRM, I would prefer SD since it has wide opening globally than CRM.

If my experience is not enough to be an SAP SD consultant, How much experience should I gain to be a proper SAP SD consultant?

I would say that you could start as a junior consultant. In Europe there would be opportunities for this but I don't know the market in India.

Of course both areas, SAP SD and SAP CRM, are very interesting. But I would think that the salaries in SAP CRM are higher as the topic is newer and SAP SD belongs to SAP ECC which is more or less old style.

Hi Thanaraaj,
There is no scale that you need to have some numbers of experience to become SAP SD consultant.
Freshers are started their career directly in SAP SD but domain experience gives a way to understand process very fast.
So, there is no thumb rule. if you put your hard work, you can win.

Already you might have come to a conclusion on """How to Go Ahead"""
Just one Financial Advice: 3.6 lacs for SD certification is Very Huge,
Recently some of my friends done for 1.8 lacs in ATOS...Do a survey on this...
DONT DARE TO DREAM WITH 25 DAYS OF TRAINING IN SD,
WILL CHANGE CAREER GRAPH..
Lastly Nobody assures you---The Job
(your institute is just playing with you with the magical word--100% placement)
Ask them clearly will they give 50% return on amount paid, if not assured with Job.
(you also play with them)

Thanaraaj,
To start a successful career one needs a deep "love" of a field. Do you have that for SAP SD?
If you don't then probably shy away, as the initial road is difficult and (maybe) expensive.
