HI All,
I am not able to find a place my queries on technical and functional issues.
I hope I have put it in the right area.
I have been working as a an ABAP Consultant.
I want to move into SAP SD Functional , the sooner the better.
Is it really necessary to work in a field job before going into SAP.
Please help me in this regard.
Do let me know if I have posted in the wrong area.

Hi Amit,
It is not require to have field job to get into SAP SD.
If you are really passion to learn... then below are the steps guide to become SAP SD Consultant.
1. Read SAP Sales and Distribution Business Processes end to end.
2. Tie up with your SAP SD Friend if you know anyone in your current company (like module sharing).
3. Sit along with SAP SD guys and resolve support tickets or ask any query.
4. Join SAP SCN SD forum and check out what are the real questions and answers posted.
5. Commit yourself to give 3 months study time for basic SAP SD business processes and further you need to give 1 to 2 years to understand real time business processes.
6. Check with your Project Manager and show your interest that you would like to move on to SAP SD Functional Consultant Role.
7. Last you need patience to learn not only SAP SD or any other SAP Modules.

The right place for this question would actually be The Other "C" Space - Carrer Center.

Amit,
As Gopi suggested - Study the Sales & Distribution business processes.
SAP SD has standard configuration for several business processes - OTC, Returns, Cash Sales, Credit, Debit, Intercompany sale, Consignment, Free of charge, Subsequent free of charge.
Study and practice these many times.

Gopi,
Very nicely said!
If we want to follow and complete the points you have mentioned, it will take years. But it will be a great journey of discovery and growth.
