Welcome to the world of SAP, Dinesh!

As you've recently graduated but have not yet found work in the SAP world (at least that's what your post implies), I recommend that you first read a blog post I wrote a while back which roughs out a typical career path in SAP so you have some idea what to expect. I'll spoil the plot a bit here and tell you that you may be a bit premature in your SAP research.

As an MBA graduate, there is a chance that you might be able to get hired by one of the big SAP implementation firms right out of your program. If you've already graduated and that hasn't happened, then that ship has probably already sailed. (Honestly, you'll be better for it in the long run.)

Now the task ahead of you is to get an entry level job in Finance (preferably at a company that already has SAP) and focus on learning everything you can about how it all really works. Also, you want to work on your CPA or other finance credentials.

In shorthand, your career will probably look something like this:

entry level job --> SAP end user job --> entry level SAP FI support job --> SAP certification --> either entry level SAP consulting job or mid level SAP support job --> --> --> sky's the limit

You see, Dinesh, there are thousands of experienced SAP FI consultants out there with MBAs, post graduate Finance certifications, hands-on SAP experience (as both an end user and configurator), and SAP certification. In order to be competitive, you need all of those same qualifications. Don't be discouraged, though, there is lots of room for more quality SAP FI folks, but you have to understand what it will take to be successful or you are setting yourself up for failure. This means several years getting real world Finance experience, working on certifications, and THEN learning how to translate all of that into SAP configuration.

You may also want to check out Jarret Pazahanick's blog entry: Valuable lessons to make the most of your SAP career.

It never hurts to at least have a decent grasp of the basics of what is covered by SAP FICO, so here's a link with some top level information. It's for an older version of SAP, but if you skim it, you'll get the idea.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

   --Tom

Dear Leon and Thomas,

Thanks for your valuable suggestions.

Thomas, as you have right said in your blog, “You are not gonna beat the 30 yrs old with real time experience” -  well said .

As Leon suggested FICO would be my preferable area of interest in SAP journey . .

Thanks for your suggestions . .
