Hello,
I am new to SAP and when I say new I am on the beginner level. However I have a varied technical background and a Masters in Information Systems Management.
I have seen in some posts that ABAP, and BI are probably areas of interest with my background.
I know it depends on what my preference is, but I am interested in ABAP, as well as BI. Can someone advise me the correct route to take as far as what things to focus on to establish my foundation?
My company runs SAP so this would be a great opportunity for me professionally. If I can get up to speed on SAP, as it is a very massive ERP system.
Thank You so much for your input.

Hi,
ABAP and BI may be good to start with. But, as a BI functional consultant, it would be handy if you have 2+ years of ECC experience, though it is not mandatory.
Looking at your technical background, they would much suit you.
You can also look into Business Objects and HANA.

dear,
another approach for you.
look at job websites and search for ABAP and BI vacancies.
compare ABAP and BI positions (permanent or contract, requirements for candidates, rates, locations,....,.....).
do you feel the difference ? then think about the possible target.

Hi Larry,
As you have mentioned you have technical background and your company runs on SAP. I would like to recommend you based no my experience. If you want to grow exponentially it would be better not to go into Technical Hard core ABAP but get the know how of how the business process of your company is integrated into SAP. For this you will be required to deep dive through Configs ie SPRO Tcode. Choose the module which you feel would be comfortable in.
The demand as well as value for a SAP Functional Consultant is more than any Technical Consultant.
All the Best!

Thank you for your response. What is the best way to deep dive into the Configs and SPRO (forgive me I am not sure what SPRO stands for).
Thank you.

SPRO is the transaction code for configuring the system.

You may please download the configuration guides from the above link.
Please use IE not Google Chrome (Chrome will not work)

SPRO is a Tcode in SAP , here you will find a hierarchical list through which you can drill and find the customisations made in various modules of SAP system used in your firm.
