Hi
Recently got a job as IT Tech within the IT/Finance/Controlling Department.
Wanted to know where I would learn about SAP ??
At the moment, all I can do is "SU01" to manage a user's account to unlock / password reset.
but features like , compare roles between 2 different users (in order to see who has which roles) - would be interested.
I know SAP is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge beast but got to start somewhere, right?
Do I need to be a Finance Guy in order to understand SAP or how does this work?
I joined SAP SCN in hope to have a section for total newbies / new starts in SAP
but I guess, I am wrong because all I can see here are SAP Experts and Consultants.
Never the less, some advise would be appreciated.
Thanks
Buki

Hello,
And Welcome to SCN and SAP world. Looking at your Job Description, it looks like you have a SAP Security kind of a role. And setting your eyes of becoming a SAP Security Consultant would be a logical way to continue in the SAP world. And no, Finance is a whole different beast than what you are doing currently.
To progress in this field, you can either take a SAP Security Course and/or Certification. Or you can ask your employer for an in-house on-the-job training. These would be ideal for you IMO.

I should not get into SAP then!
I thought there is something where I could learn step by step or get a feel for it.
I don't know why you got this idea, but I never mentioned anything about not getting into SAP. In fact I advised you to continue in your current role, which is similar to that of an SAP Security Consultant and get trained there. Just like SAP Finance, Security is another module.
I know SAP has a lot of branches / departments etc.
SAP Security, I guess is more the ROLES / PERMISSIONS side of it ?
That's right. SAP Security/GRC role is all about providing Roles/User IDs/permissions etc. Which is pretty much what you are doing right now...

Oops! Sorry about deleting your earlier post! I wanted to reject the "Abuse report" but ended up rejecting the actual "post". Sorry about that. I guess there's no way of getting it back
