Hai,

This is Ajay.I completed my B.Tech in Computer Science Stream and i am currently working in java holding 1.5 years of experience. I want to change my technology to SAP . I am totally confused which module i need to choose in SAP . I need your valuable suggestions regarding this. Some people says, go for SAP ABAP. some people says SAP BI. I am interested in SAP SD module but many people saying it needs MBA but i don't have that. so please give me your valuable suggestions regarding this.

Thanks,

Hi Ayaj,

It all depends on what you like to do or how you see yourself. If you see yourself as a developer and you like programming, then ABAP would be a place to start your SAP career. If you are even more into technical stuff then you may start in BASIS module. Those two are main technical modules.

On the other hand, you have so called functional modules, like MM, SD, FI, CO, HR and others. In them, the most important thing is that you are familiar with business processes that they support. Someone may hate me for this, but for me, they are just to boring, or better say not so exciting.

If you like to know how things work and like to create then ABAP is for you, and with your knowledge of Java, it won't be so hard to understand how things work in SAP and became proficient in ABAP.

As for BI, it wouldn't be so easy without previous experience in SAP, because you need to be familiar with many of SAP database tables and business processes and you still need to have basic ABAP knowledge.

Vladimir

Hi,

If you have java experience it is better to go PI or sap Portal because they are java based solutions.

Yes you are correct..

I suggest At first know little bit about PI, then if you are interest then go for PI.

See we should go for this which we have interest....

Don't go for this things which you things your career will be better but you don't like to do that.

Go for this module which you like.

For SD you need just strong business knowledge, that's why your friend said you need MBA, but not exactly.

If you know the all business logic and you can convert into system, then you can successfully run SD module.

But as per your experience you should go for technical part.

As you have the experience JAVA, you will better understand the coding language.

ABAP and BASIS is technical module.

SD, MM, FI are functional module.

My suggestion go for this module which you have interested,

SD is very good module...

venkata,

For SAP SD one does not need MBA.

As Dev has suggested, one needs strong understanding of business processes (esp. sales processes).

If you donot have relevant domain experience, then it would be difficult to "succeed" in a functional module.

Hi Ajay,

Welcome to SAP world. It is an data warehousing tool. Everything is new for you and you can learn any module, but your interest about that process is important.

For example if you want to go for

ABAP - Programming is main process (a bit more than sql)

SD - you require sales process in an organization

MM - Material business process

BI - Any module can come here and get customization as per need

So choose as per your interest in process. Attend some demo/ online video classes of your interested process modules and decide.

Hope helps - Kumar
