Hi,
I want your suggestions on most relevant SAP modules as per my existing knowledge since I am planning to enroll for SAP education soon.
My experience area is Technical Customer Support & I am involved in Installation & Maintenance of various Telecom products(say 3G Data Cards,PRI, Leased Lines etc) at customer end in coordination with Sales & Vendor Teams.
Also I am managing trouble ticket system for these product post installation,I am also Providing client support and technical issue resolution via E-Mail, phone and other electronic medium. .Co-coordinating with NHQ, OMCR, vendors and the field team for necessary resolution of technical problems arising in field is a part of Daily work schedule.
Although I am in Tech Support, it doesnt involve any type of coding or programming of Systems/software.
I have completed a engineering degree & total experience is of 8 years.
Can you suggest me which modules will be relevant as per my existing experience.

Kiran,
Please see a post I wrote earlier about SAP Basis. While it doesn't sound like you've been doing system administration, per se, a significant amount of Basis work involves installation and technical troubleshooting and it sounds like the overall mind set of the work you've been doing is about right.
Given your telecommunications background, you have a unique opportunity to get into the Basis side of SAP Customer Relationship Management, in particular. The telecommunication systems in Call Centers need to be integrated with SAP. I've had to handle it once as an SAP Basis guy and figured it out with the help of a pure non-SAP telecommunications guy, but you could probably do the whole thing by yourself which would be a nice niche.
Hope this helps!
Best regards,

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your suggestion. However I am little reluctant to go for BASIS since currently I am not at all doing any DBA or System Admin job.Whether recruiter will hesitate due to my zero experience in these roles?
I am dealing with Customers,Internal Departments,Sales Team and Vendors everyday to support Installation & Tech Complaint resolution. Is there any other module which I can understand easily and also recruiter can co-relate my SAP skill with previos experience.
Thanks,
Kiran

Hi Kiran,
SAP CRM, either technical or functional, seems like the best match to me. If your current company was running SAP, then you'd be loggind support calls and complaint resolution in SAP Service Desk functionality of SAP CRM. I suggest buying a CRM book (Amazon, SAP-Press, or even a library) and trying to get a feel for the basis side as well as the functional side of CRM. The problem is that for functional folks, the recommendation is to start with SAP Sales and Distribution module of Enterprise Central Component (previous name R/3) before moving into CRM. I think straight SD is pretty far from your experience, from what I can tell.
If you're technically minding, I still think Basis is a better fit. With 8 years of hands on technical experience in your background (You're not including the time to get your engineering degree, right? Your wording on that could go either way.), if you pass Basis certification, you should be fine, especially if you play up your ability to fit in the CRM technical niche.
Hope this helps!
