Andrews,
I gather from your question that you are totally ignorant about "What is ERP" and "Where does does ABAP fit into the scheme of things in ERP". So before anything else, I suggest you do some R&D on the above mentioned points. Try to understand the Architecture of SAP ERP system. (Btw SAP is one of the many ERPs present in the market!).
Once you get an understanding of SAP, look for areas of your interest keeping in mind your educational background and comfort level.
And then if you have a specific question you are free to come here and ask it.

Hi Andrews
I think you will benefit but reading up on what the terms you mention. SAP ERP is the component (system) for Enterprise Resource Planning not a module. ABAP is one of the main programming language for SAP (the language for SAP ERP). Modules in SAP include Finance, Materials Manager, HR, Procurement, Sales and Distribution, etc.
What reasons were you advised to do ABAP? What is your understanding of SAP so far as to why you want to study it and have a career? Finally, what is your interest and what do you want out of a career (other than job a well paid job).
Regards
Colleen

i was advised by consultant to do ABAP because i was from mechanical engineering and also i dont have a much exposure to coding. but i really wanted to do modules related to mechanical like MM. then there was a confusion when the consultant and my dad said u cant do MM without ABAP. as far as i know that SAP is the software that is used to control the operations of an enterprise in a secure and ordered fashion which is ERP (enterprise resource planning).i want to go into automobile industry which will allow me to show my skills in design and programming as all my projects during course of study was related to automobile and everything that i did needed programming and coding

The best way to avoid confusion is to gather information by searching through Google. Different people suggest different things based on their own half-baked knowledge. But gathering information by yourself going through all the "official" documentation (help.sap.com) gives you the power to make the right decision.
