I want to pursue my career in SAP SD module,  But unfortunately in my circle not so many people in SAP where I can take advice from them. If any one who suggest me about  this field  its great for me -

1. Is SAP SD module has better career opportunity in respect of my profile.

2. Or can opt CRM also ?

3.After 7 years of domain exp, its  help me to grab the Job in SAP ?

3.Is it a right career move.

4. How important is SAP certification for me.

Hi,

As far as your expereince,  its almost related to SAP SD only . So you can take the Training in SAP SD and if possible CRM also.

I think all your previous query's are answered by the above peoples.... But i want to say for

:- How important is SAP certification for me.:-

Once upon a time in SAP there was a market by knowing the TCode or SAP Enduser they were taking into Junior Consultant role. But nowadays its became very competitive in market you need to know a lot in the subject and also basic entry became by having the certification in hand.

Anyhow if you have plan for Certification that will be better idea then go for SAP CRM according to your domain expereince and market openings because there is lot of SD Consultant with certified searching job in market but camparatevly CRM will be good with less certified consultants in market and also it will be easy for you to understand the concepts.

But before going to Ceritification you do the ground study about the Module which your are going to takeup Certification.

And also I am concern @ the opportunity & future ..... Now its became bit tuff due to slowdown of the job market in India…which iam highlighting about present situation...

But i would like to tell some do and dont's here...

1, Don't ever resign from your existing job for studies. Today the world is very competitive so train your self to sail on multiple boats simultaneously.

2. Don't put all your investments nor into borrowings for investing into further studies your current earnings should be the source of investment into it.

3. Do keep 51% reserve for your fate and do your best for rest of 49% as even after putting your best efforts there is no assurance of success as your luck always runs faster than you.

After completion of your certification its not really sure about you will get job within a month or within quarter year. Its all about the opportunity in market aswell as your Complete knowledge in subject Plus your fate + your Patience.....

So All the best!!!

Thanks

Hi

Yes. It's a right career move. SAP SD career is going up. As you have 7 years of domain experience, it becomes easy for you to understand the process and this also help you to get the job. Certification helps a lot in grasping the process quickly when you're on the job. All The Very Best.

Thanks

Jay,

After 7 years of domain exp, its  help me to grab the Job in SAP ?

Domain experience shall help you understand the clients requirements, business processes but along with that & very important is SAP SD understanding & configuration knowledge.

In interviews you might get: Please explain partner determination.

Starting off your answer by giving a business scenario explaining - the entity placing the order, the entity who must receive the goods, the entity who shall make the payment etc.

And then giving the steps in SAP w.r.t. configuration of Partner determination shall impress the interviewer.

In the above example both part (business example & the SAP configuration) are important!

I totally agree with Mr.Nayeem. I left my job in Dec 2011 after just 14 mnths of exp. and finished certification in the first attempt in May 2012. Due to down turn m still in look out for a job. Please do take into a/c the current suitation before leaving. I think you should give it a shot but do not put all your eggs in a single basket.

Hi Everyone,

I just want to ask about certification, is it required to have certification. What is employer' main priority in SAP-SD module, if anyone has only knowledge competitive to certified candidate.

Awaiting your reply.

Thanks

Hello Jay,

Good Morning.

I will suggest you to switch to SAP SD only if you are not happy with your current job / role.

Since you have 7 years of work experience after MBA, you will already be earning good salary. Now even if you get a job in SAP SD in IT Company you will be treated almost as fresher & the salary will be in range of Rs. 4 - 7 lacs p.a.

Thus I suggest you to think from all the angles before taking a final decision.

Also, as far as certification is concerned, it will definitely of a good use to you, but once again, are you ready to shell out Rs. 3.5 lacs for certification as of now, also you may have to wait for couple of month before you get a job in SAP SD.

Thanks,

Jignesh Mehta

Agree 100%; unless you have a valuable network able to offer you a well paid position (and this position should be something like project manager, ecc) forget SAP.

More, don't chase the certification graal... without prior SAP experience nobody will care of it especially for someone like you with 7y prior experience in a different environment.  Better invest your money in learning a new language....

The only chance for you would be to be hired in a sales position in a company implementing SAP.. you could engage the implementation team, get some visibility and then something might happen (in this case, at this point, a certification might help).

Dear Sir,

I have in total 7 years of experience in total. 3 years in Sales and 4 years in HR. Currently i am in Business Development Manager in Aptech, its going to be 7months since my joining. My friend is associated with one of the SAP consultant, hence he wants me to do certification and as and when i will clear the certification he will help me in the Job placement in the company, where he is currently working.

I am bit confused, which module to choose, because i dont have core knowledge of any of the domain. Now i am ready to work hard and want make a career in SAP. Please suggest which module will be the best module keeping in view future prospect and growth.

Dear Karan,

Module is something you need to decide, as you are going to work on it. Every module has it own opportunities. However, considering different things, personally, I would choose HCM, as there will always be a market in HCM.

Furthermore, please note SAP Certification program is NOT a job guarantee program. However, if you do certification through SAP / Education Partner, they may assist you in find a job. However, job CANNOT be guaranteed.

Learn SAP with passion, if not today, you will be succeeded tomorrow. Please DO NOT resign from your current job. Take one month leave. It is a calculated risk.

All the best.

Ravi

Hi Jay,

I've 3 years domain exp in the Security Surveillance Sales and Distribution for a major Chinese manufacturer. I had the similar query 2 years back then, but now I've taken only the positive feedbacks about SAP SD and moved forward. I took help/ assistance of a real-time SAP SD trainer and hired him and I'm taking up a personal training now, and I can tell you that I can familiarize myself with my domain exp with SAP and m able to co-relate things easily though some initial and consistent hard work is required. Now m planning for an online training from ATOS, get certified and sit for interviews without leaving my current job.

Since you have a very good domain exp in SD, you better take up SAP SD and try to co-relate your domain exp into the SAP SD curriculum and see that it matches your profile, and without looking back further just proceed.

- Take advice from Ravi and T W.

Nelson

Hi Jay,

Your domain experience will be of great help provided you get SAP projects in your domain. As a SAP SD consultant you may have to work in any industry sector like Pharma, automobile etc. Rather than just domain experience, it is the product knowledge and your consulting skills will take you a long way.

Hi Jay,

I was in a similar situation few years back and can relate to your questions.

Please find answers to your questions.

1. Is SAP SD module has better career opportunity in respect of my profile.

SAP SD would be the logical choice with your background and experience. However, opt for SAP certification if you are passionate about it and want to pursue a career in the long term. The certification cost is pretty high, so please try to take a break from work and do the certification instead of resigning from your current job.

2. Or can opt CRM also ?

CRM certification cost is higher than SD. After exploring SD module for few years, then you can switch to CRM.

3.After 7 years of domain exp, its  help me to grab the Job in SAP ?

Domain experience will help to understand the business process but you will be considered as a fresher only in the IT world. So be prepared for that mentally and financially.

3.Is it a right career move.

If you are passionate about it, please pursue it with sincerity and devotion.

4. How important is SAP certification for me.

SAP certification is important but does not guarantee a job...it will definitely open doors for you in terms of an interview. Do you have any end user experience in SAP?

Hope this helps to some extent.

Thanks & Regards

Govind

Hi Sridhar,

In SAP experience is considered in two parts. One is domain and another one is SAP experience. Domain experience is something like a sales engineer, production engineer etc. SAP experience is counted in terms of number of end to end implementations and number of years of SAP working experience.

Thanks,

Sarvesh

Sridhar,

What activities did you do as a bank officer?

You are currently learning SAP SD. It comprises of sales order, delivery, billing processes (and other things). If you were involved in activities related to these processes, in your bank job; it would add value to your SAP SD career.

In other words, you as a SAP SD consultant should understand the "views" of the business users.

Having the right domain experience shall help in this regard.

Hi,

I prefer to go for CRM, since you have mainly spent your domain in service industry, due to which you might be having good understanding of service life cycle. Also note that, now a days CRM has very good demand for people who have experience in service industry. Please opt modules CRM sales, Service and Marketing in curriculum.

hi everyone,

till last year i.e till end of 2013 i was into sap & jd edwards industry. i was working in a company as a hr recruiter. now i m planning to move ahead by doing masters in marketing or operations.after doing masters i will gain exp in operations majorly. will that exp somewhere will be helpful in sap sd bcz eventually i want to do sap. i have good theoretic knowledge about sap. but practically  i don't have i need to learn that. for that which institutes are best for sap.& i have heard that somewhere in market  that their are institutes which will charge u less. will that be useful in big mnc's. or need to do from authorized center like atos.

bharat,

Masters would not be helpful for a career in SAP SD.

Do not waste money and much more importantly - time.

If you are passionate about SD then go straightaway for training in SD. Go to local institutes that charge less, while choosing an institute see the potential of the instructor (you will take demo sessions before enrolling)

SD market is tough for freshers or people wanting to break into.

More than certification, companies are looking for knowledge, communication and the commitment to add value to the customers' processes.

Please set your expectations correct.

SAP Certification is not a job guarantee program. You should not disappoint yourself if you cannot get a job. Certification is step of process to enhance your knowledge.

To your question, in my opinion, all are one and the same, not much different as they follow same curriculum.

Please note there are many people without job with Certification.

There is nothing to feel negative. I would only like to share the reality in the market.

All the ATCs follow the similar curriculum, similar type of facilities and fee structure. I do not see much difference between any of the ATCs. The quality of training is mostly dependent on the trainer, though they essentially follow the same curriculum.

Dear Amit,

Please do not put yourself in trouble by faking your CV.

I know 99% in this market does the same thing, but you should prevent yourself from doing such things. Either it will not benefit you or your employers / clients.

Show the same commitment in learning SAP. Do not much think too much about your current job, rather concentrate on positive side of SAP. I know it is frustrating situation, but you should follow the right path to achieve success in your career. Faking CV would never make you happy even if you are able to get job. You need to feel guilty and scare every day.

Hope this helps you.

Best Regards,

Ravi
