Hi All,
Please let me know what is the job prospect for freshers in ABAP as I am going through the certification for ABAP from Siemens. I have been going through the forums and is it really hard for a fresher to fetch a job in SAP market.
Thanks in Advance!

Hi,
the certification is no help to get a job; in reality it is a way to cheat ignorant consultants and potential clients by SAP telling both that the consultant is an expert in programming with ABAP, when he is not.
I have more than 13 years working with SAP as a developer (10 years out of it as consultant) and so far no client has ever asked me whether I am certified (which I am not). On the contrary, I have had certified developers (also at Siemens) that come to me asking for help when they are stucked in a problem; I notice how ignorant they are after a 4 month course for learning ABAP.
The only winner with the certification is SAP, because you have to pay for the participation in the exam whether you pass or not. In the exam you have to answer 100 questions regarding theory ... and you don´t write a single line of code. A good consultant you´ll be with much theory and no practice !!
Another problem in the market is that all companies search for senior consultants ..... and they want to pay salaries for junior or even worse, for trainees.

Hi Jorge,
Thanks for replying on my post, I do agree with you that one should have onsite experience but my question is no company will hire you as a fresher to work on any SAP project.
As a fresher the certification is kind of ladder with the help of which we can enter the SAP field then after that I do agree with you experience counts.
I have completed by enginerring in 2009 and since then I am working in a BPO. After spending so much time in this industry its never easy to switch back to IT industry specially in INDIA. One should have some kind of certification to enter the field. I have done a lot of research before making my mind for SAP ABAP as its suites my skill and interest.
The reason I have posted in this forum is just to have a idea what is going on in this market and what are the job prospect.
Once again thank you all for your suggestions

Hello Swetank,
Not to discourage you, Jorge is quite right about the value of certification. Having a few months of real time experience is more valuable than a official certification from SAP atleast in the current market situation. Only in rare cases do employers look for certification.
I can only suggest you to check if you could get a opportunity to work as a intern or a fresher in small scale companies to get that more valuable experience after which you can achieve your goal more easily. All the best.
