Hi Everyone,

This is Nikhila.

I did my Btech in Computers and as of now working in IT industry on servers for 3 years.

I want to start my career in SAP. So I want to know which module would suit me exactly.

I don't want to work on SAP ABAP, so checking with BI/BW and BASIS modules.

As a start of my career in SAP which one could be preferable.

I like working on databases, SQL also

And also I want to know what are the exact differences between these 2 modules.

Hi Nikhila,

both bi/bw and basis module are good. and abap too

bi/bw is more tilted towards providing reports(bex/bo) to business which created using Business Intelligence functionality.

and basis is more about administration work in sap. basis people responsible for ensuring that the SAP application server and applications are installed and configured properly and remain running smoothly.

but if u dont want to be in abap then i will suggest basis, because if you are in bi/bw then in some scenarios u may required abap(routine code in trasformation) which is required frequently while modelling.

Regards,

Hitesh

Hi,

Actually it really depends on where you are inclined to..You can also be good in BI even if you like to work with databases..It really depends on whether you will enjoy the work of BI guys since you will still undergo training whatever module you will grab..

Hi nikhila,

Based on your interest and past experience SAP Basis module will be suitable than BW.

SAP Basis - is heart to SAP system and its admin activities/roles.

Please explore more about SAP Basis thru Google search.

You can use search key as "SAP Basis".

About BW:

its data warehouse which is consist of

1. Modeling(Designing)

2. .ETL(Extraction,transferring and loading)

3. Reporting(Bex and Wad)

Even it needs little knowledge on ABAP As well.

So based on those concept you can decide which one is suitable for you.

Thanks

Hi,

As mentioned by Hitesh and Raman, you should really go with BASIS since you already worked with databases on your career..They already mentioned the differences of the two (2) modules..
