Is it too late for me to get into SAP?

Hi SCN members,

I am considering a career move into SAP. I am not sure though if I can still catch up (I am 30) and what field (Technical or Functional) should i consider.

Here are some info about me.

- I have 5 years of functional experience in the courier/shipping industry.

- During this 5 years I graduated from B.Sc in IT and computing and obtained skills like Java and SQL.

- Then I become a Business System Analyst working in PMO. Although my role is not pure technical I am assigned database hands on tasks including database design/maintenance, extracting reports (T-SQL), SP and other DB concepts.  I didn't use Java or any programming skills commercially even though I am fairly comfortable with it.

So now I have 10 years of experience. Do I have the prerequisites to become a SAP Techno Functional consultant.

If so where should i start? Should I first be trained in a technical module and gain experience there then move into a functional module or the other way around? And, the million dollars question, what module(s) would you suggest based on my profile stated above.

Thank you very much in advance

Raouf

Hello Raouf,

I am close to your age (although you are still ahead me ), and it seems to me that you did quite a few technological / basis work.

Perhaps you could start doing Basis, like I did (and I still do today).

Although it is not an "application module", later you can still switch to a specific application.

Best regards,

Laszlo

Have you checked other posts in this space? There are already very many posts on the same exact subject and a lot of good advice has already been given. Analytical skills are vital for an SAP professional, ahem.

P.S. 30 "too late", seriously?
