Dear All Experts,
I would like to know whether SAP-ABAP certification is compulsory/necessary for getting in to CMM 5 level companies?
I have 2 years and 9 months support experience right now, with no opportunity of E2E implementation in my current organization. I wanted to switch for better, but being a normal graduate with no technical degree, I had been said that it'll not be possible to get a better opportunity in SAP field since SAP has made a clear regulation for the companies to hire only certified professionals in future. Is it true?
Should I go for the Certification right away?
Right now, I am in a fix, and want to clear out the exact scenario. I would request for all advice that can help me to take the right decision.
Thanking in advance, and hope to hear you soon.

>> Nope, its not true I don't think it will ever happen
Certification is not necessary to join any company in SAP field. It just adds a bit more value to your resume nothing more.
If you have good knowledge of ABAP and can answer Interviewer's question clearly and with confidence - you will get selected even if you are not certified. Knowledge is what matters the most not certification.
Wish you good luck for your future.

Though some companies request certified resources to work on key projects. Being certified will definitely give you a clear return on your investment in terms of career development.
Ideally work with your employer to get it funded.

Hi Rituparna,
Certification is not an necessasity , but it can be beneficial.
Its not mandatory to have this in terms of finding some good Opportunities in CMMI Level 5 Companies. I dont think SAP owuld ever mark Certification as Eligibility criteria in these companies.
One should have good practical knowledge in various SAP Project Cycles which can be from Development , Support , Enhancement etc.
Good Knowledge would help you find good opportunties rather certification.
Hope it is clear to you now.
Thanks
Kamal

Dear Ritu,
I have some counter questions before I reply to your questions.
Have you received any interview call and rejected just because of certification till date?
Do you think that after doing certification you will start receiving interview calls?
Do you have spare capacity in terms of Time and money to invest on studies?
In case if answer to all the above questions are affirmative you may please go for Certification the given below link may help you http://scn.sap.com/thread/3216552
But
In case if you are not very clear in your own with the answers to my above questions please refer to the blog http://scn.sap.com/community/training-and-education/certification/blog/2012/08/09/dos-don-ts-for-sap...
My suggestion is to gain little more experience in SAP preferable E2E.
There are many companies who hire experienced consultants even if unqualified and there after company sponsor such consultants for certification.
Please put as many filters as possible before investing any time or money and while investing please take care of all the Dos and Don'ts.

Hi Rituparna,
As of now there is no such mandate that one should be certified for acquiring a job in SAP. Whatever module you are having experience in should be very clear to you and the experience should brief the work that you did so that the interviewer can understand your skill level.
In order to get a job in a highly competitive market one should have multiple skills and experience so that the employer gets a good resource and the return on investment is high. Please do some research about the current opportunity in SAP and then take a decision of which module to pursue and also see that the subject of your academic education is in sync (it's not a must but makes good sync). Keep learning through articles/blogs/books and reviewing the posts in SCN for gathering information and increasing your understanding on the topic of your choice.
Good Luck.

Hi,
There is no need to do certification in SAP if you have experience in SAP. In Certification there is overview of concept.
In order to get a job in a highly competitive market one should have multiple skills and experience so that the employer gets a good resource and the return on investment is high. Hi Siva,
Good suggestion,
If persons working in support projects, how they will get opportunity to work in E2E implementation.
Now many companies asking E2E implementation is must.
How we can get E2E implementation experience with out giving opportunity.

Hi RD,
I had been said that it'll not be possible to get a better opportunity in SAP field since SAP has made a clear regulation for the companies to hire only certified professionals in future. Is it true?
No and never. they are preferring with N yrs exp and with present feature of that application. that may suffice sap project requirement.
Its not mandatory. but its useful when you search for jobs. when company prefers certified one with exp, in that case you resume will filter easily.
Even though certifications are useful to certain period like 2 to 3yrs. Every year versions are changing, in that case we may need to do finish yearly one certification as for newer versions.
Basic concept of course will be the same. but some additional features adding in newer versions.
Even its depend graduation also, if you are hail from non technical, that would be useful if certified.
Most of the companies for SAP Projects, prefer technical background. in that time certification may add advantage to filter your resume.
As my guesse its little confusion for you to go for certification or not.
Take all the mates concerns and take right decision.
All the best for the bright future.
Thanks

Hi,
SAP has not made any regulation to hire only certified professionals.
If you are around 3 years of experience in ABAP support project means you will definitely have good knowledge in ABAP. If you are technically good you can easily clear interviews without certification.
Try to get implementation project in your present company or atleast to get some up-gradation project.
Best of luck

Anil
