Kalpana,

You're in luck. SAP has it's own JAVA programming environment. Your programming skills are directly transferable. You just need to take a class on SAP's programming environment and get certified. See the link below to see the courses offered

https://training3.sap.com/us/en/curriculum/nw_java_dev_na-development-associateprofessional-java-wit...

There's a more detailed curriculum at the following link, but it's probably overkill

https://training3.sap.com/us/en/curriculum/java_na-java-programming-courses-g-en

The links above are for the US, but the classes/information should be the same in India. The only problem is that in India, you have to go through a authorized training center and they're going to want you to pay for all of the training up front. Also, they're probably going to want to run you through the ABAP programming curriculum first, which you don't need if you're happy being a JAVA programmer.

Hope that helps!

Best regards,

Hi Kalpana,

I've been working as a java developer for the past 2 years. Even I would like to switch into SAP now !

Did you move into SAP?

HI Vivek,

I would also suggest you to also consider SAP PI technology which is middleware of SAP and JAVA system and mostly Java knowledge is needed for it.

And also SAP CRM technology also has a good scope for someone with Java knowledge.

Thanks,

Adithi

Hi Adithi,

Thank you for your reply

I was thinking to pursue HANA as it has a good future.

Does HANA suit my profile?

Hi Adithi,

Thanks for your reply

Heard we need to know ABAP before pursuing PI module? is that true?

Hi Vivek,

A very  basic knowledge on ABAP would be enough to pursue SAP PI/XI. You can see the below link to get an idea for the same:

HANA I have not much idea about it and it is definitely the upcoming technology in SAP.

Hope it was helpful & Best of Luck!

Adithi

Hi Vivek,

HANA is a in memory database from SAP, it is good for BI consultants SAP is promoting HANA because of its performance over the legacy database. May be HANA might be useful for GRC as it provides report extraction way to faster.

Thank you,

Hi Vivek,

As said, we would need basic ABAP coding knowledge for SAP PI. Mostly wrt ABAP, you would be implementing ABAP mapping in SAP PI.

You could consult SAP PI/XI Consultants who would definitely give you a wider and better idea about the technology.

Adithi

hi,

For working in sap PI java knowledge is most preferable, Now a days PI is comming with Java only stack.

Also SOA architecture and XM L knowledge is required.

Your best way to switch form java to SAP is , SAP PI and webDynpro java, sybase Technology.
