Self-learning (without a formal training) through internet is something that I would not suggest any fresher to take up. There are many minute things that you might end up missing when learning through tutorials and online material.
Being an ABAPer if I were to learn a new module, I would still prefer taking classroom courses that learning it myself. I'll feel more confident that I've learnt the right things the right way and then take it forward form there.
But then, these are just my opinion.
