I am changing my job from developer to netweaver administrator.

Hi. I am having developing background and thinking of changing my focus to netweaver administration. Will

I have challenge to this role since the lack of operating system and system administration knowledge? How should

I prepare myself to be a successful netweaver administrator, should I start to learn operating and network before it?

And is the netweavere administration boring?

Hi zhangh_TX ,

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question.

But, you need to have knowledge in operating system (Unix, Linux, Windows etc.) for sure.

Also, you need to have good knowledge in Database (Oracle, SQL, DB2 etc.) and of course SAP administration.

So, SAP administration is always very challenging. You might have to troubleshoot many issues

which you never experienced.

So altogether it is not easy and you need to be prepared very well.

It is not boring at all, I would say, it's an awesome experience to be a netweaver administrator. You will face challenges every moment. You will have to solve numerous issues. Without your monitoring an SAP system will not run smoothly. Intersting huh?

But for this you need to have a profound knowledge in three things:

1) OS Administration (Linux, Win server, Unix, Solaris)

2) DB Administration (MS SQL and Oracle)

3) SAP Administration (BASIS Knowledge)

It would be very helpful for your part if you can do an Oracle DBA certification, as DAtabase administration is the CORE responsibility of an SAP Administrator.

Thank you all for the responses and they are pretty helpful. Is there any difference between SAP BASIS administration and

Netweaver Administration, regarding to the job roles, knowledge basis, skill set? My company will hire another basis administration and

I will be the netweaver administrator, but I am not sure what will be the difference between these two positions. Thanks.

Do I need to prepare myself with Linux if we will install SAP on window? And do I need to prepare myself as Oracle admin

if we know we will have SQL db installed for SAP? Basically, Why is multi-system knowledge matter for SAP system administration? Thanks in advance.
