Hi SAP folks,

I'm a SAP BW/BI Consultant, I was just wondering, I plan to get MBA, but since taking MBA involving big sum of money and time.

Is MBA really worth it?

1. How would MBA helping me to advance my career?

2. Anyone who is doing SAP got an MBA? How did MBA assist them?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Vince

If you want a career in SAP BW/BI, it is a total waste of time and money to go in for an MBA

The question should be - what is the career you want to pursue?

There are people in SAP who have got MBAs - Some of them have gone on to pursue careers in Management, Sales/Marketing etc possibly in SAP related fields/companies, but they did not stick to their SAP Functional/Techncial roles after that.

An MBA most probably helps you pursue a career in Business Administration, Management, Business Consulting, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources (depending on your specialisation, of course) Do you want all that? Then go for it.

Do you think an MBA would help you become better at SAP BW/BI or give you more growth opportunities in this field? I would think again.

Hope this helps.

Hi Harish,

Thanks for the feedback.

I do not meant to MBA to advance BW/BI Career, but to Advance in overall.

I guess what I should be asking is how MBA would bring value to someone who is not practising Management/Business.

Does getting MBA allow him/her has broader choice of advancing into Management? or eventually become CEO etc?

Is MBA worth the money spent?

Kind regards,

Vince

A lot depends on the conditions in your own country. In Most places an MBA is a post graduate degree course. If you have work experience AND proceed to get an MBA degree, and if you have performed various leadership and managerial roles in yoru current assignment, yes, MBA could be a stepping stone into Management jobs - Ofcourse the degree on its own will not help you become a CEO - I am sure you will agree that whatever your degree, substantial achievements and your personal attributes will contribute to your rising really high.

On the other hand, if you have not been doing managerial/leadership roles in your current assignment, after your MBA, if you do not manage to convince potential employers of your potential, you could well find yourself starting from the bottom again. You could lose all credit for your work experience so far. The starting salary for a fresh MBA graduate may be lesser than what you are earning now after a few years in SAP BW/BI.

I guess the bottom line, is you are the best judge of whether it is worth the money spent - In most places an MBA degree is a stepping stone to Managerial positions and typically attracts a good salary, however, ultimately the degree just opens doors, you have to get in and stay in. You need to have a good idea about the competition and availability for such jobs in your country and take an informed decision.

Hi,

Advancing in the field where we are all depends very much on US.
It's your determination and will that takes you to the heights that you dream.

Talking practically yes an MBA in hand will help you  advance in your career. Don't go for the three words MBA and dream it's going to change your future. Choose wisely the place from where you
get the three words. Consider MBA for the betterment for your future and not
for the sake of having a degree in your resume.

A rigorous MBA program will help you in a variety of ways, leadership skill, management ability, better decision making which you can also acquire over years of experience. MBA will be able to give all those in a condensed and easily consumable form.

Also in practical work environment you will not be getting the opportunity for practicing all management techniques.

Yes MBA will help you, based on from where you pursue it. All the best.
