How to switch Technical to Functional

Hi All,

I am working as a ABAP Consultant . I want to move my carrer as a functional as CRM or SRM or BI/BW or IS-U. Can any one guide me in this.

Hi Durga,

There is no direct way to switch to functional role. You need to have the functional understanding of that are (CRM / SRM / etc). Once you gain the functional knowledge, you can take the functional role. First identify which module interests you more, then you can do some research and learning with respect to the functional side of the module.

I agree with Nilanjan. You can't do it directly, but you can migrate from technical to functional if you are persistent and diligent.

First, do some more research and figure out exactly what you where you want to go. It's hard to map out a route to a destination if you don't know where you are going.

Then, let your boss know that you want to specialize in the ABAP aspects of whatever area you have selected. This will let you work very closely with functional folks of that specialty. If you can't do that where you work now, apply for ABAP work with a different company that will let you specialize.

By working with the functional folks closely in a specialty, you will be able to learn the business side of that specialty as well as the technical side. After a few years, you should be able to migrate to the functional side full time.

I agree with Thomas. You can't do it directly, but you can migrate from technical to functional.

I'm starting to work in BI.... it's very interesting.

I'm working with a very experienced consultant, for me this is critical to properly learn a new job.
