Hi all,

I am Tejus. I have completed my Engineering in Computer Science and currently working as a System Analyst in Data Backup and Recovery. Although, I am into a technical profile, my interest is to get into a Project Management role which is why i am pursuing my MBA in the same specialization.

I would like to know a if there are any prerequisites/certifications to be completed to get into a Project Management role. I was told that Business Analyst role is the entry level profile which can lead me to become a project manager. One of my friends even suggested me to complete a SAP module which could help me in my career as a Business Analyst but was not sure about it.

Please let me know the SAP module(s) relevant for this profile and also suggest other options for the same.

Regards

Tejus J

Hi Tejus,

Project management is different from any functional / technical domain. These days technical people also get into project management, if they are interested in it and have good management skills.

Thats good that you are already pursuing an MBA, congratulations. Now if you talk about certifications, then I guess any certification in a project management domain would be better such as PMP, which would be an added advantage.

I think that any Project manager with the right management and people skills can manage a project irrespective of the technology used. Also, experience is the key. Industry experience is a requirement for project management, experience in understanding different business processes and problem-solving skills are mandatory.

Gather experience and skills and you surely will become a project manager some day...!!

Best of luck..!!

Hi Tejus

Non Vendor specific courses (like PMP, Prince2, etc) can be helpful in learning project management. Project Management has its own pathway within SAP and the roles can be quite varied (assist the PMO - project management office, scheduling, managing project plans, budgets, managing cutovers, etc).

Within SAP, there are courses for SAP's ASAP methodology. If you are interested in a SAP Project Management role, I recommend you investigate ASAP methodology training

Having a BA and functional background can help. At the same time, a technical background can also help with project management for technical-orientated projects (e.g database migration and system upgrades).
