How can i get satisfaction from SAP career?

I am just a normal man, and was working in SAP testing for 3 years. My problem is that I am not getting a feeling of Self satisfaction.

I was mostly working as SAP Test Automation Engineer. the Automation part  in it is giving a kind of satisfaction as I can see the result of my work is doing great and I feel proud of myself when I think deep using those various logics like if conditions loops ect  to make the automation done . But I know that SAP is much more bigger than that. However, I was not getting the satisfaction.

What in SAP can make me feel that kind of satisfaction?

I am confused.

When I am thinking of the SAP, I feel like there is nothing to do in it.

All I have to do is to learn something and make sure that it is following it, if not, correct it.

Please let me know how I can do my thinking on to it?

Please help.

Hello Jose,

There can be two reason for your dissatisfaction.

1. You are expecting more output from others while not giving proper input to them.

2. You are not interested in work.

lets do something different, suppose you got some work to do, now you some standard steps to perform that task, right? so why always go for those standard step, why don't try to find some other way to perform that task,in starting it can big or complex but later on you will find some smart way to do the same task, just need some concentration and interest, that's all.

If there is no much work to do then start learning some other module or part of SAP there are no. of interesting module in SAP.

hi,

First of all thanks for replying to my question. But replying to you.

- the first option, I don't even understand.

-second option, I sometimes feel that I am not an "SAP Type", probably because I personally didn't  choose this career, it just came to me.

-SAP defines everything as a standard business process, which is world wide accepted and is always the best, ok there might be rare exceptions .

-normal people will learn the process and make the "BIG SAP GUY" face

I feel like the work in SAP doesn't have a visible out come. Most of the work in SAP is like a repair work, or repeating . Correct me if I am wrong.

Not like that, its fully depend on the work or module. If you want to see some visible out come, try to learn and work with ABAP, here all outcomes depends on the code you are doing.

Jose,

You are correct!

SAP is actually about learning a "well developed system" and then serving the client.

Similar to a doctor, he/she learns medicine and then serves the patients.

If you do not like to "learn" a system, if you want to participate in the growth and design of a system, then SAP is not for you!

Hi Jose,

This is very interesting question for me because I thought the same of SAP before starting work in it.

Suppose you are creative guy like me, off course that you cant find satisfaction in testing, implementing or assisting users. But, first of all, SAP is a platform with endless possibilities.

You can create almost anything in SAP if you know to program. Secondly, it's not true that SAP covers all the industries. What about agriculture for example?

And now that you have mobile applications and HANA cloud, you can even self develop and publish applications on SAP marketplace under some circumstances.

I work as ABAP consultant developing custom modules and also mobile applications on SMP and I have recently started learning HANA cloud. You have great free courses on openSAP.

Most of all, I'm very satisfied with my job.

So don't give up, but explore and learn with children's curiosity.

Hope this will help you in your SAP career.

Best wishes and good luck!

Vladimir

I think we are in same frequency. I was always in search of some creative work in SAP field, but i could hardly find one.

As far as i know, SAP builds the software and sells, so the creative part lies only in "SAP" itself.

So the only way to get that job is to join SAP AG, that is a way too high for me to dream about.

is there any alternative path?

Jose,

A "solution architect" role can be very creative and non-repetitive.

(one of the roles of a solution architect is) After the sale is done, this "solution architect" goes and discussed the business processes with the users. He formulate the processes in SAP that would suit the business.

Further these meetings / discussions are dynamic and an architect gathers all these requirements; steers the discussions etc. Ultimately constructing the basic process skeleton in SAP. and then discusses with the business to get their buy-in.

Ok, the first step in the creative domain of SAP would be ABAP modul. ABAP consultants are always in demand. Next, not only SAP AG build and sell software but SAP Partners also. Maybe a good option for you would be to find a company that is SAP Partner and also have and create their own solutions.

There are many such companies, just look at HANA Marketplace, most of the applications are not from SAP: http://www.saphana.com/community/marketplace#/all

I don't know where are you from, but look at this solution for agriculture that is in whole non-SAP product but SAP certified: http://www.myagri.com/solution/

There are also companies within the corporate group that are building custom solutions for other companies within the group.

If we also put mobile applications in this story, you can see that there are many alternative paths.

If you have experience with Java you may choose to explore HANA, Mobile or Web Dynpro. If you only know ABAP then start with traditional SAP programs that runs through SAP Gui. You can experiment for yourself at home if you install mini SAP system (Netweaver ABAP Application Server Trial), or try SAP Mobile Platform or HANA with their trial offers from SAP.
