Dear alll

I got an offer from one of the Top universities from India to do Masters in Software Systems through Off campus mode. most of the subjects are based on database and computers, it surely helps for improving knowledge but i want to know how much its helpful for me in SAP career. I have a bachelors degree in Computers and a SAP Job. so How much this higher qualification will be useful for SAP. i am excepting a good review on Qualification vs Career.

I saw some people in Sdn, having a bachelor holder in science and language degrees they are good in SAP career. its may be always not possible in all places. So how much a Qualification really helps in SAP career.

regards

Mahesh

My question is: I am not going to do the same job for all my life, what about you? I guess you work as a developer? I don´t kow your age, not even sure if it is polite to use it as one of the important things for the decision, sorry if that is inappropriate. Where do you want to be in five, ten years? I am sure you´ve noticed this age of comupters and so-called social stuff is very hasty and you cannot even guess what will come the next year. So I am a little afraid of the future in like 10, 20 years.

Everything is aggressive, profit-based etc. and any advantage you may get is helping one to feel a little safer. If I would be in your shoes, I would start the studies like tomorrow. If you would like to benefit from your experience and would feel some kind of management position would be a nice job to have (and nice money to feed the family, nice feeling of being important and doind a job people appreciate etc.), you may understand it too late, that some other guy got your "dream" (not sure about your dreams) job because he had the same experience described in his/her CV, but he havethe master and you don´t.

I could write pages about the topic, since it is close to me, but I prefer to hear your feedback and your thoughts, not mine.

Cheers Otto

Thanks Otto, for your reply.

just few months back i came to this SAP field as a EP developer so i am much interested in this filed because it offers growth in all directions(tech, functional) and i have to learn a lot.at this moment i tell i am going/acting to do this type of job for life time but not sure after 10,20 years. when i asked the same question about degree in my company i got a mixed replies and much on don't go for degrees since you have a experience etc but i like studying and knowing new things so i searched for some work integrated Degrees and at last applied to an university. Finance is also in consideration so i choose Wok integrated off campus mode but so many has doubt on this. i have a very few dreams good job, salary, family (only 3:-). now problem with first 2. coming to my age i gave a hint only, i cross my 1/4th part of life in next year. so i have so much doubt/tense etc about next 3/4th.you said "since it is close to me, but I prefer to hear your feedback and your thoughts, " i want to hear what your option if its a off campus mode work integrated program/ distance mode.

I am 27, to clarify my thoughts a little.

I have a master degree in computer science (databases and data engineering) and it is not enough for me. Education was always important in my family and both my parents are PhD. So I need to take an extra step now to get where they gone 20 years ago. I was considering to stay at the university and try to get a PhD, but the guys at my faculty are not accepting distant PhD students, since they want some slaves to work on their "research". That is not acceptable for me, since I have a job I like and am not going to drop it. I started looking for alternatives. I found two. One was a school of economics, where there is a guy intersted in usiness processes supported by SAP. But I didn´t like his style, he didn´t seem to be reliable. Another option was PhD at the university in my home city, but... well... the quality of the school is awful. Some of their students get their degree for the same things I was studying first/ second year. Not interested. So I dropped these activities and am concentrating on the job at the moment. But it is still bugging me.

So I started all the thinking again. I decided to get the MBA (try to get) in 5 years, once I know I will not travel (what will happen when having a family most probably). I was considering MBE (engineering), but I would have to go to Germany, to Dresden (3-4 hours drive + money for all this) many times a year to cmplete the study. So my girlfriend does not like this one. There is still the MBA in the game.

And some time ago I became intersted in UAC program on SAP SDN (check for yourself, it is a forum section), where some nic man told me about Victoria University, Australia, where they have a long tradition of the SAP related education. I left a message there asking for more details, I would love to attend such course, but am afraid they are not interested in guys, who live like 15 000 miles away from Australia. But if that would be possible, I would spend next two three years doing anything they would ask me, to get the degree from thie well known school.

I am not sure if that is enough or not:))

cheers Otto
