Hi
Being a fresh and newbie here in SCN I would like to request to check forum rules and adhere the same.
For your question you can start with SAP SD as fresher and start learning on your own if you have SAP server access. It is difficult to learn without coaching so it would be nice if you join some training center or SAP academy which you can get from Google. If you are in India then there are a lot of people and academies which are giving SAP training or education.

Adding 5 years of fake experience...
Have you worked in the Retail industry?
How much do you know about SAP SD?

What you can do is get SAP certification. Entering in SAP market is difficult but once you get SAP certification it would be easy for you to get SAP job. Role of SD consultant is not limited to one thing. You can get support role job in some comany which is already running SAP as its ERP solution or you can get job in some company which is implementing SAP in some new client company. If you have good knowledge and skills you can also get freelance work but again it would be difficult to get SAP work without any prior experience.
Try to get some SAP job as junior consultant in US. I heard that there is good scope for SAP professionals there in USA. May be you will get one on right time but keep trying with positive attitude.
Thank$

The roles and responsibilities are pretty much the same across industries, for an SD consultant.
Further, in a company, you could be in different types of projects - support, enhancement. Depending upon this, your tasks / roles would be different.
In Sony, HP etc., the Retail process, you should know -
- the sales process
- account determination
- pricing
- returns
- batch management
- serial no. management
