Hello,
I heard about SCN a few days ago and this is my first post, so I like to apologize if I am posting in the wrong place. I like to introduce about myself before posing a few questions.
I am a Masters graduate in Industrial Engg from TAMU, currently work as a supply chain manager and have 10+ years of experience in various roles of supply chain from USA. At the same time I am a computer savvy, performing lot of programs and coding in my current and previous positions(Using SQl to pull reports and C in my final year grad project). I did took a training in SAP ABAP, honestly I don’t remember anything now. I was told by many people that I should be working as a functional consultant between Business and IT, when I help IT to understand the business concepts. But at the same time when I said functional , I have no idea about configuring the system, whereas just collecting the user requirements and solving the existing configuration problems. Personally I am a person who look for challenges and like to learn new things, so I worked in different positions from purchasing, planning, forecasting, inventory management, supplier management and also Manufacturing. I am planning to switch my career to SAP functional and please answer my queries based on the above
- I chose the following modules (MM,PP, SCM & APO) which looks relevant to my business experience. Please let me know if I am missing any.
- I already did my research using SAP Help and SCN about these modules, looks like all the four modules are relevant to my experience. Please help me in choosing one.
- Believe me I am not interested in money part so I am not worried which one pays more, whereas I am interested to know which one is more challenging.
- In the future once I get used to one module, I might be switching to another not sure after how many years, coz I heard SAP is like a SEA always something to learn. So please suggest your answer based on this too.
Thanks
Regards
Dev

Hi Dev,
My opinion is that you fist start with MM, and then when you comfortable start with SD or PP or both. Because of your experience in programming you could very easily learn to make enchantments and user exits in these modules as well as some reports.
I'm also a master of industrial engineering and work as ABAP consultant. My colleague is graduate from Faculty of Science and he is MM and SD consultant.
Just choose what interests you most and don't worry about challenges, 'cause in SAP they will always exist.
Good luck in your career!
Best regards,
Vladimir
