Having chance to work in BI along with 3.5 years of ABAP experience

Dear Folks,

I have 3.5 years of ABAP (OO/webdynpro/workflow)experience, but right now am getting chance to work with BI in reputed Indian organization.

My confusion is if I work with  BI what will be my market value having ABAP + BI or should i continue with ABAP.

Hi Amol

My general rule is - whenever you have an opportunity to diversify skills go far it.

If you ever work for a medium size client/employer then having multiple development skills would be more beneficial

Also, BI may then allow you to diversify into HANA. Having BI and ABAP with HANA would be quite a nice combination.

Finally - if reputable organisation then that suggests you may have other opportunities or if they are a consultancy you may get to work on more well-known global clients

I appreciate  your reply.

I have got training in abap for hana recently and was interviewed for HANA.

Later they told me, initially you have to work in BI & ABAP once Org. will move toward to HANA then you will get a chance to move into HANA.

Hi Amol,

This is what we say "MULTISKILL".  If you get an opportunity to work in SAP BI, do not hesitate because you will have multiple skill when you see after 2 years.  The opportunities become wider when you search for a new job.  Your coding experience will lead to SAP HANA in future as you already have a knowledge in SAP BI.

If you look your profile after two or three years, you profile become SAP ABAP, SAP BI and SAP HANA.

I got selected...taken decision to work initially on BI side by side having access of HANA eclipse..
