Guidance required to start career as sap consultant

Dear All,

Thanks to provide your guidance to start my career as a sap consultant.

Below mentioned is my detailed information & the query related to subject.

Qualification : MCM (Master in Computer Management)

                     DBM (Diploma in Business Management)

Experience : Total 9 yrs of experience.

                    In which first 5yrs as desktop support and system admin in IT.

                    Then from last 4 yrs i am working as SAP L2 support person in IT (Automobile Industry)

                    My current company provided training to me to support manufacturing domain.

                    In which, i need to provide L2 support for day to day issues related to MM, PP, SD along with that i need to handle users authorizations                     as per SOD.

                    As a support person I have good knowledge of MM but need to learn configuration.

                    Also good knowledge of roles & authorizations.

Now i need to start my career as sap consultant in particular module but not able to finalize that which one is best suitable for me as per my education & past experience.

Could you please suggest whether i need to go for MM or SAP Basis / SAP security.

Hi Nilesh,

You have more experience in IT & currently, you are working in SAP field but which area have you worked more with confidently so based on your current activity, you can decide which area will be

more comfortable and suitable for you. If you feel comfortable with functional area then you carry on otherwise you can move Technical area.

Hi Abhijit,

Thanks for your immediate reply.

I am comfortable with Functional area as i am working in same environment & the chances to move forward as a project manager for further sap roll outs in a same company.

But my qualification and past experience is technical and if i want to switch to another company for career as well as financial growth how it will be calculated.

In SAP, domain knowledge & experience is very important.

So is there any blocking point for me related to education, past & current experience.

It doesn't matter because of your experience and qualification both are enough for this filed so you carry on & keep going your track.

SAP BASIS and SAP Security, these are little bit same... Not totally..

As you have short listed 3 modules

SAP MM, SAP Basis, SAP Security..

As you know SAP MM modules is totally depend on business procurement..

And BASIS module depend on another thing..

SAP MM and BASIS, both are very important module in SAP...

When an organization implement SAP, They must need the BASIS consultant...

Also MM is very popular for any Procurement organization...

Whenever an organization deals with a vendor, then they must have to implement MM module...

Now You have to choose as per your interest..

I suggest don't choose more than one module at the initial stage...

Learn all the things about one module in depth, then you can go for other integrated module...

Since  You  have  9  years  of  experience , Better  go  for  the demo  session  for  basis  and  MM in a  reputed institute  and  take  some  time and  decide .
