Hi there,
I am trying to dig into the technical details of the SAP landscape. After reading about the different components and having a look into some protocols like DIAG and RFC, I thought it would be helpful to start programming some ABAP to get a better understanding how application servers work and get into detail.
Is there any book which describes ABAP programming from the very beginning, including the setup of the testbench using the trial versions offered by SAP e.g. installation routine, explaining IDE and so on... ?
I am familiar with programming, databases, operating systems and networking stuff.
Best regards,
Felix

Moved from ABAP General, which is for questions/discussions around actual ABAP development problems or topics.
Have a look at http://www.sap-press.com/ (or .de equivalent), many good ABAP books available.
"Discover ABAP" seems to be an introduction of rather "old school" style for the beginner, after that maybe "Object-Oriented Programming with ABAP Objects" to dive into the "OO school".
Search here in SCN for tutorials about how to install the ABAP Trial versions.
