All dear gurus,

I am a  newbie to the field of SAP.

Almost 1 year I worked on ABAP and due to some reasons, I moved to ESS/MSS & NWBC for last 8 months.

I successfully completed 1 implementation project as well in ESS/MSS & NWBC.

Now I have an option to learn either Portal to become a Portal Consultant or to learn HCM. Can you all please share from your Experience where should I focus on.

Warm Regards,

Namsheed.

Hi Namsheed,

Both SAP Enterprise Portal and SAP HCM are nice options.  As your worked on SAP ABAP, you can try SAP Enterprise Portal because of you are good in technical background.  I see SAP ABAP'ers do not have module restriction because they work across modules and other systems as well as per my experience.  However, functional consultants are work in particular module in deep and they also have two or three modules or more to hold multi-skill set.

You have already worked in SAP ESS/MSS, then you can ask your manager to work on both.  Try your ability which one you feel very excited to work and if both suits, then you can call yourself as multi-skill set guy.

If you get a chance to learn both, then say yes to your project manager.

Hi Namsheed,

I don't have experience in SAP HCM but you can read SAP HCM and follow SCN forums to get hands on.

Buy SAP HCM book and read atleast 10 times to get understanding of terminology, SAP process etc.

Check each and every lesson configuration, master data etc in SAP System.
