Rohan,

Help me understand this. You are telling us that you completed your Bachelor in Science in 2011 and then worked as a Project Manager for three years? Meaning, right after your Graduation you became a Project Manager? How is that possible?

Secondly, you have done a host of PMP and other Certifications including a Diploma in marketing in this period and now you are trying to be an SAP SD Consultant? If becoming an SD consultant was your aim, then what was the point of doing those PMP certifications?

Before you jump into anything I would suggest you to do some sort of retrospection. Define your short-term and long-term goals. Switching careers and hoarding Certifications without a clear focus or a goal will not help your career. Use your time wisely to achieving one dedicated career goal.

Good Luck.

Hi Rohan

You have a good qualification and you can join anytime in SAP SD module.  However, if you are in India, if you try to get in the month of Feb or Mar then lot of companies would take freshers for their projects and most of the projects are kicking off in May, June and July.  Every year, if you take listings in top job websites in India, those have more listings compare to after September listings.  Check this analysis trick .

So, best time would be Mar to July but start trying from now itself.  If you have a luck then you can crack it.

Hi Rohan,

There is never a bad time to join SAP world..

Are you really interested in SAP SD or Project management areas. From your profile it seems that you have put lot of efforts on project management side.

Seeing your profile, I would recommend you to go forward in project management areas in SAP.

In SAP, we have Project Systems, Portfolio & Project Management and Commerical Project Management.

Ravi

Thanks.

Actually i have completed my degree in  BSC comp science but i was not interested to continue my career in programming, so i started improving my skills and getting knowledge about  Team and Account Handling, got an opportunity to work as an Team Leader , after six months i was promoted to Project Assistant and then to Project Manager(BFSI-Sales and Support) after 1.5 years of Experience.

I had done PMP,PRINCE 2,ITIL ,CSM,CSSGB certification because i wanted to work as an Project Manager in one of the Reputed MNC's.I had also approached few  good companies ,but they wanted candidate with more than 6-8 years of Experience in Project Management. So i was not Eligible.

I have done some research and found that in India there are very few JOB vacancies for SAP PS module compared to SAP SD,FI,ABAP and other functional modules. So i though i should go with SAP SD,

One of the concern from Genovate told me that there are several vacancies for SAP PS in India, but not many students go with that module ,hence placement and recruitment figures are also less compared to other modules,But probability of getting JOB after completing SAP PS is more as very few students opt this module and thus competition is also less,

I really wish to go ahead in Project Management only,But I dont understand, why competition is less, why only few people decide to go with PS module(escply in India)

Rohan,

You have chosen an off-beat track for your career progression - which is good. I wasn't even aware that such a route was available. And that brings me to my next question. Why this sudden shift to being an SAP SD Consultant? What's the motivation behind it. I mean you have a pretty good gig going with the Project Management. So why take a step backwards and be a "Consultant" a.k.a team member?

It's true that to be a Project Manager in a big MNC you need about 6-8 years (or more), but then if you hang-on long enough then you will get there eventually.

The reason that not many freshers don't go for SAP PS is because it can be a little intimidating for someone who's new to SAP. Some kind of familiarity with the SAP environment is required to establish your hold in PS. So as a general principle, PS consultants are typically those who have a few years of experience as a MM or SD or PP etc consultants.

There are plenty of SD jobs, but then there are plenty of SD consultants too. And to make it as fresher in that field could be challenging. But you have experience on your side, so it might be easier for you than a fresher with no experience.

Hi Rohan,

Considering your career experience and interest, it is better to go towards project management rather than other modules. This will constructively build your career in the long term.

SAP PS/ PPM is a niche area and at the same time there is no shortage of demands for these modules. There are lot of job opportunities for SAP PS in the market.. Any project in any company in this world requires a tool to monitor & review the project progress. Considering this organisation may use either SAP PS / PPM / Microsoft project / Primavera. But definitely organisations using SAP uses SAP PS for project management. So in short, there is no shortage of demand for SAP PS.
