From a technical perspective, there isn't much difference between XI 3.0 and PI 7.0. SAP just changed the name from XI to PI and upgraded the version (3.0 to 7.0) to keep it consistent with other Netweaver suite products.

PI 7.1 is fairly enhanced version of PI 7.0
