career switch from certified accountant to SAP techy

Hey all,

Recently I am out of the company at 50, career so far for the 15 years in finance team. Worked in SAP environment for 13 years. Budgeting/Forecasting/Month end close were the main area. Got SAP FICO solution certificate 10 yrs ago. I am really techy guy and know how to deal with SAP scripts / VBA / VBS and also have full experience in SQLs. Before getting into finance/accounting, worked as a member of a team of maintenance/develop in house ERP using PowerBuilder/Oracle. Recently studying front/back end web development. Wondering now what should be the better track I should get into and what the possibilities are. Contacted few companies looking SAP guys and was told that I need experience in SAP implementation or something.

Just taking courses and getting certificates won't put myself into the career track. It is very clear message I received from the recruiters.

I am in Canada/Ontario. Any suggestions welcome.

Hello kyujeong.lee,

Seems like your background suites FP&A functional area. Knowledge of SAP tools like IBP, BPC and SAP Planning would help. Though as in any other field Certification are addition and validation of your knowledge and do not replace experience you earned working on a live scenario. I am not a carrier expert and there are ppl who consult for living. Beside posting your question in Linkedin would help as well. There are time when companies and consultancies hire ppl and train them before exposing them to anything new.
Your question is restricted to a small audience that is SAP BW (based on your tag). I suggest you remove this tag and add something like -

Careers , Certification, SAP Community.

Then your question will be visible to a wider audience.

Jason, I can't believe that experienced FICO guys are not in demand any more in america...even in terms of money... I probably know what do you feel - I am sap logistics who wants to be a sap techo, keeping scripts, smartforms and other abap tricks as a hobby. Agree, without a real experience it would be not easy to hop a train. Wish you a good luck, mate !
