Guide in pursuing a career in SAP

Hello all,

In the past SAP certification was my goal but I never followed through as life got busy with family, full time job and school.
I am now at a point where a decision needs to be made and here I am to ask for advice & guide to the professionals and experts in SAP.

I have 13 yrs of non-IT experience. I am working as Process engineer with 13 yrs of experience of process design in Oil & gas industries.


Now I am thinking to change the field from my core process design to SAP based Oil & Gas or similar.


Please guide is it good to decide at this stage of my life to change over to SAP career as a fresher. If yes, how to start up means from which basic course need to start to end to SAP OIL AND GAS module.


I would appreciate right direction & guide from all of you. And any additional advises welcome.

Hi Kedar,

Nice to see your zeal to learn new things. I must say changing career mid-way is always like a chicken and egg thing. Having said that, the world is changing and keep upgrading your skills is trending.

As you said, your're having very rich experience of Oil & Gas industry and adding a SAP exposure to your profile will definitely be a major plus. 'Industry Solution' offered by SAP for 'Oil & Gas Industry' is very well structured. It is getting even more powerful as SAP is continuously working on new technology innovations for their products.

If you are a new bee in SAP industry then I must suggest you to dig their portals like scn, help, etc. You'll find plenty of info out there to get you a feel about SAP's products and how they work. Regarding courses for Oil & Gas industry, you may get a look into a beginner course available at SAP Learning Hub (if you're having valid credentials); otherwise you can always go for the YouTube channel of SAP for the related answers of your queries. Based on your interest level and knowledge in that field, later you can also go for the Certification program.

At last but not the least always remember one thing; Tools are always easy to learn. Keep learning as knowledge is power. All the best!!!
