Career in SAP for non-IT background people with Marketing experience

Hi,

I have heard that people with non-IT background have some scope in SAP but not sure which module of SAP would be right for me. I am having 4 years of experience in Marketing and have done MBA in HR and Marketing. Prior to that I have done BA.

I don't have any technical or computer background. Would it be a right choice to pursue my career in SAP??

The real question is: why you wish to switch your career to SAP?
If this is because you don't like your current job, probably you won't enjoy much working in Marketing or HR in a SAP role - then you would wish to get a fresh start in something completely different - in this case, go to open.sap.com, watch a few courses to get a rough idea what is SAP about and decide which area suits you best. If this is because of the rumors of higher salaries - this is an urban myth for most people in the first several years.
It really depends on what you like doing - do you wish to gain more IT knowledge or you prefer to work in more business-oriented roles?

If you are thinking of becoming a successful functional or technical consultant - you need to learn a lot of technical stuff, like system architecture, networks, database, programming. You would be initially at a disadvantage, if you apply for such positions, because you will face a fierce competition with graduates with some IT background. It is still possible to get a job at a much lower salary, of course, than you are probably used to, and start working. If you have no interest in IT, it is best not to pursue a career as a technical/functional consultant in SAP.

Another option is to become a business consultant - they deal more with business processes, optimization, change management. For this, I think, you would need a lot more business experience than 4 years in various industries and positions - to be taken seriously. You still need to gain some IT knowledge, but it would be less, compared to technical/functional roles. Depending on the business role, you would need to learn also project management, standards, local legislation.

You could probably get a job as an end user in a company, which has already implemented SAP and work your way slowly towards a BPE role in Marketing or HR, if this is the career, which you wish to pursue.
