Career In SAP - BASIS For a experienced

Hi All,

I am very much new to the SAP world with very less background on this. I am interested in moving towards a consultant role in SAP from the vertical I am working now. Am not sure if I am posting this question in the right group.

I am into Unix, scripting and performance testing and support type of a background. But it is with respect to internal, so I am willing to work in a role which has client exposure and also solution implementation. Since I am into support I think SAP BASIS would be the right module for me.

So the query is, being 3 years into support background (Unix, Scripting etc) is it okay to start a career in SAP now?, And moreover I will be considered as a SAP fresher after completing the course starting again from the bottom of the hierarchy. How good is the SAP field in BASIS now?

Are there jobs for a SAP BASIS consultant as a fresher?

Please help me out with these things.

With 3 years of work-ex, you can enter this field; there is no issue. Yes, you would be fresher in Basis. It is difficult to get first job after your certification or course, so I suggest you should choose the institute well otherwise there will be struggle. About how is the field - it is good and promising. But don't expect some quantum leap - it is like one of the good fields, wherever you are give your best and you will succeed.

Thanks Rahul for your reply, I needed that. Yes institute is the important part which I need to look out for. I checked out a few in Bangalore there have promised me of assistance but I am sure that it is going to be hard to get even with some assistance.

As per your previous knowledge BASIS is little tough fro you, in BASIS there are many authorization matrix, You have to know strongly about BASIS, because basis is a very careful role for sap. You need an experience to get a job for sap basis. I suggest learn SAP BASIS carefully for at-least 2 years, then you can join as a BASIS consultant.

Hi Dev,

Thanks for your suggestion. Actually as with the modules I saw, BASIS was the one matching close to my expertise, rest had all programming requirements(under Technical). I know it is going to be a risk for taking this up so late. Hopefully everything goes well keeping my self positive and of course with all the help I can get from you all
