If you are condidant of technical skills(programming with softwares) & willing to learn latest trends in ABAP,

then you can stay with your current job or else you can prefer SBI PO post.

Thoroughly analyze our skills yourself before coming to a conclusion.

Hi,

Instead of giving few links for other forums/blogs, let me give you a honest opinion.

As per your information, 'you are working from past one month as ABAP Consultant' so correct me if I'm wrong that you have only one month SAP experience. Now you got a job at financial sector with a prestigious bank as an officer.

So is there anything tricky to decide here ? When recession, job security etc have started playing in your mind then my suggestion would be go for the officer job. Work there and earn reputation. After couple of years you can judge yourself better to benchmark your career progress and make a call if that role is satisfying for you or not. Remember later if required you can try joining back to SAP world through FICO route - probably a better rewarding SAP career than your current role. But the other way may not be possible for others i.e. applying for a secure Govt job(after working few years in software) in India along with atleast half a million applicants and finally make sure you get selected among them.

Personally I know guys who shifted to SAP FICO after working for couple years in banking industry and they are really good consultant.

Only if you are so passionate and have a burning desire to make a career in SAP technical then continue what you are doing now but never repent later and erase recession, job security etc words from your mind.

Regards,

Shivaji

Rakesh,

Knowing SBI and SAP very well... Its very difficult to get selected as an SBI PO.

FYI........ SBI has IT Services as well and is having SAP and other ERPs.

I would recommed to go with SBI PO.

If you join the bank you should be willing to travel to any remote place in the country. Also life in bank is not as secure as many people think from outside. It has its share of risks associated. However if you join the bank may be after gaining some banking experience you could also look at Banking IT sector, which is equally good paywise compared to SAP.
