Build a career in SAP

Dear all,

I want suggestion to build my career in SAP, This june i will be completing my MCA post graduation, since from 3 months i am doing final semester project on SAP-ABAP as intern.

And i am also good in JAVA programming language

After completion of my project i am wishing to choose SAP as my career, Is my decision is correct ?

If correct, suggest me path to build my career in SAP considering the fact that i am technical student.

Obviously it is correct. SAP is now no 1 ERP software in whole world.

I feel proud that I am in SAP world. It would be a very good for your career if you enter into SAP world.

As you have little knowledge about SAP ABAP, then you can go with this module.

Hi Santosh,

as you are a technical person having exposure to coding in java, then you can take SAP ABAP as your career option, it is one of the major sap modules and its totally coding languages, there are some points that you have to consider before taking any decision.

The first point is that as you have prior coding knowledge , then SAP ABAP will suits you too much and lateron you can move towards other related sap modules like UI5, Webdynpro, Workflow, HANA etc.

But you have to consider one point also, as getting ajob as an fresher in sap world is tough, so you may get too much difficulty in getting an opening for sap abap, but its not impossible , if you wants to take it as a challange, you must go ahead with it, choose abap and choose any sap authorised training center near you, take proper training, learn the syntax and symantics of abap, then you have to work hard to carry all these stuffs.

Hi Santosh,

If you are very strong in Java Programming, I would suggest you to keep your options open for SAP Netweaver as well. ABAP is default programming language of SAP and Java based products within SAP are Netweaver BPM, Netweaver Portal, CE etc. So, if you are confident with Java coding, then certainly pursue this.

Remember, Java is open source initiative and it is used as mostly for integration purpose.

Several times, you will be advised to consider ABAP or Basis as you come from technical background. But sometimes, these small factors are missed  which could make huge difference to your career.

Hi Santosh,

Indeed SAP ABAP is a good option to one who is starting his career and whants to consider a technical career. As you have Java already you know how to build applications using Object Oriented programming. SAP is now moving to this world and this can be more easy for you to adapt to the ABAP language.

There are several consulting companies that open their doors to freshers and this should be your starting point. You are now doing your project as intern in SAP ABAP so you have a litle experience and this companies like someone who knows the SAP world and is "cheap".
