Hello Michel, Hope you are doing good.
As you are from electronics domain, I don't think there is any module in SAP related to electronics. So i will suggest you to pick any functional module of SAP. (can find on Google easily).
But i am wondering why you want to learn SAP while you have masters in Electronics ? and why now, means where is your 2 year (2011-2013) ?

Hi Chandra,
I don't want to confuse him but my suggestion here is as he is from Electronics background(assuming that he has done BTech(ECE)), it would be easy for him to come into technical part. I mean ABAP or Basis according to his interest.

How you can say it will be easy for an M.tech degree Holder to learn ABAP. ?
2014 Jan 20 8:49 AM
Hey I am not saying particularly ABAP. What I mean is it will be easy for a B.Tech guy to learn Technical module(ABAP or Basis) than functional module because I am also from Electronics background. So I opted for Basis as I am interested in Administration side.
Hey this is just my opinion or suggestion. I am not forcing him

And how can you say it will be easy for him to work in a Functional Module?
The problem with giving such "expert opinions" is that this is all a guessing game:
- maybe you can pick up ABAP
- maybe you will do good in BASIS
- maybe you can be a good MM or SD consultant
- I heard HANA is hot in the market, maybe you can work in that whether you like it or not
and so on....
When you don't know the OP in person and don't know his strengths and weakness, how can you suggest anything for him - especially when the OP himself has given very little or no information about himself or his interests.
I would personally not like to help anyone who can't do even the slightest of research about his future career.

kishan,
I like your post!
Members,
Some of the discussions / threads in Career forum are totally "random" which probably would not add any value, to any body (except probably some points for some )!
Some of the OPs who give very limited, vague information e.g. just with "which module should i take?" etc. These members are at an early stage of deciding, with no research or thinking...just as a "impromptu" they are posting some questions.
Very few of these OPs shall utilize the valuable contribution given by members. It is just waste of energy of helpful people (in these cases)!

From my first day after post graduation, I see most of the people working in different domain different from what they have studied. Ex: A science group guy working in a district court, mechanical engineering guy working in IT etc. So it is up to the person who wants to choose the career and adapt to it. Also, I see
many electronic and electrical engineering background guys flourishing in SAP. "Adapt" and "Learn", anybody can survive anywhere.
@ OP - You have just mentioned that you are a faculty and not mentioned the area you work, may be we can provide a better suggestion if you provide more clarity.

You are again contradicting what Keshav has just said.
What we are trying to tell here is that "you" are not the right judge based on the minimal information provided.
But of course nobody can stop you from providing advice. Plus its not against the Rules, so there is no way your post will be censured. All Im trying to say is that instead of randomly rattling career advises, try to get more info from the OP as to what he is planning to head into. What are his strengths, weaknesses and interests?
Show him both sides of the SAP story - You know for a fact that its not all rosy for a Beginner in the SAP job market. With the half-baked knowledge that he gets from such threads (without a thorough research from his end), he will end-up jumping into the fray and then regret it a year later. Encourage the OP to gather information on his own, and talk to friends and experts who are already in SAP space about constructive feedback et al.
Do remember that your advice may be taken seriously by those who are very lazy or reluctant to search for themselves. For you its just a matter of earning a few pointless SCN points and badges, but the OP might end-up investing a lot of money, effort and time into this and end-up with nothing in the end.

Hi,
SAP have two kinds of consultants.
1. Technical - Just need technical background education from any stream.
2. Functional - for functional if you core experience or core knowledge thru your education. that would be helpful.
As my guess you will be opt for technical consultant.
Below are good options for you.
ABAP - its purely coding/program skills. if your very interested you can choose it
BW - its data warehouse concept, easy to understand and adopt easily. bit kind of coding work was needed but not mandatory. its one the best module for techies who are from non computers(like EEE/ECE/EIE ....) background education.
BO - its reporting module which you need to get data from sap and need to reports by using available reporting tools. this is also good one.
HANA - its new module and have the best future. Need sql knowledge.
ABAP or BW or BO. once your in any one of these modules later you can choose hana. its best combination for your future.
Thanks

Hi Michel,
Even I'm a 2011 pass out with Electrical background, ABAP ain't that tough (comparing to other languages(based on my own experience) ) though I come from EEE background. Believe me all you need is a good training and a dedicated 30 day practice. That's more than enough to start a career.
I would personally suggest ABAP to be an entry point for anyone without prior experience or IT background. C'mon its just easy.

Hi Mike,
Its possible to start as a fresher, If you have an opportunity to enter, which is quite difficult BUT possible through reference or there are also other small companies offering training come job if you pay them.
I cant comment on you "Putting experience" and tryin!

"Putting" experience where you don't have it, is CHEATING! Refrain from it!

Hi Michel,
It all depends on you. Whether you are interested in coding ,then think of ABAP, if you want to business side functionality then go with functional training. I can say that "NoThing is Tough and NOthing is Easy, It all depends on the way you see it." Put efforts in whatever way you choose, nothing comes easily, thats comes easily will go easily. So plan accordingly and start working hard , Now a days Just ABAP is not enough, industry require mixture of technologies ABAP+(Webdynpro,Workflow,HR....). So plan for it.
If going into functional understand the business and its flow then only you will shine........
Hoping All The Best For Your Future.......

Hi, i planned to take up functional module, please guide me which module suits well.Is domain experience necessary to takeup functional module
2014 Feb 27 10:01 AM
Hi Michel,
Its good that you want to takeup functional module. Its better if we have prior experiecne in a domain, like Sales and Distribution, or Material Management or Project Systems.
If are MBA based on your majors you can pick the module. Any functional module is good
All the Best
