I would like to get into SAP but I don't know where to start. I have a Degree in Computer Science but I am currently working as a Desktop and Network Support tech and have work experience doing this type of work. Can anyone suggest how I can determine what module I can start learning as a beginner and with my background. I would rather stay away from the programming aspect of SAP. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Atul,
As you are currently working in the networking domain, I suggest you to learn SAP BASIS.

Hi Atul,
Welcome to the world of SAP. As you have interest in SAP you must be knowing about what SAP is. In short SAP is a ERP package that is a one stop soltuion for all software needs of a company. In SAP, programming language is ABAP and there are many technical/functional modules where all the implementation does through ABAP. In functional side you need not to know programming skills rather you should have functional knowledge.
These days SAP Netweaver is emerging technolgy under SAP. Under netweaver there are diff stacks such as EP, XI, BI, WAS and others. In EP you should have good knowledge of JAVA but for others programming is not much necessary. SAP BASIS can be a good option for you. But before selecting any track of SAP I will suggest you that first go through introduction of SAP and its diff modules and netweaver. After reading about it you decide which will suit you best.
Check this thread and answer given by Sriramachandra:
For see netweaver homepage check this:

Hi Atul,
Basically there are three types of consultants in SAP.
1. Function Consultant is a person who interacts with the users, gathers requirements and design a Functional Specification Document.
2. Technical Consultant is an ABAPer/Developer prepares a Technical Specification Document and builds the code/program using the Functional Specification Document given by the Functional Consultant.
3. Basis Consultant is a person who is similar to a Administrator. He configures the software/package,installs patches, moves transport requests from one system to other, works on user profiles/authorizations, SAP access issues etc.
To become a Functional Consultant, one need to have the domain knowledge.Example: CA can become a Finance Module Functional Consultant.
To become a Technical Consultant, one need to have some programming knowledge.
To become a Basis Consultant, one need to know about the system architectures, networking concepts etc.
For your case, best thing is you can become a Basis Consultant without any second thought or delay.Afterwards depending on your interest you can try to become a Functional Consultant.
Hope this helps.
Please Reward if this information is useful to you.

Srinivas

Hello Javid,
to start getting a SAP certified consultant please have a look at this page:
http://www.sap.com/services/education/
There under look for "User Education" and "Certification Program" on the left navigation column.
You first need to select your country location below and then get in contact with the responsible person within your country to apply for the education or certification program.
Hope this information was useful for you.
