Dear Friends,

Greetings. First let me thank SAP for maintaining such a valuable community network. My sincere appreciation to Mr. Ravi Sankar Venna for his blogs.

I seek advice from SAP-ians for my career switch over to SAP.

Let me brief about me. I am a B.E. Mechanical Engineering graduate, currently stationed @ chennai, India. I have 8+ years of experience in engineering department where I handle engineering drawings, vendor management (Purchase Specification preparation, Technical Evaluation of offers & Technical recommendation for procurement department), Project engineering (for a small project). I too acted as a core team member (for MM module, representing Engineering) for SAP implementation in my company. During implementation, I found SAP to be very challenging and interesting. I am much passionate about SAP. Hence I have decided to switch over my career and run along with SAP.

I had inquired with ATOS and Tespa i for certification in MM module. I too was aware about the fact that the intial entry in the SAP world is not easy.

Hence I need to know, whether I (with the mentioned domain expereince) will be a welcomed in SAP world? Upon certification, how difficult it will be to enter the SAP race? How is SAP market now (esp in India)?

Guys, please throw some light.

Regards

Richard

Hi,

SAP MM module is rocking in all over WORLD.

I am a SAP MM consultant.

I suggest do a certification course in MM module and get a experience around 3 years. After that you will be a SAP MM consultant.

Thanks

Hi,

Also in INDIA , SAP is running very well.

In 70% company has implemented SAP ERP in INDIA.

And whereever run SAP ERP they must need consultants.

MM and FI and SD is basic need for any types of retail and manufacture company.

Thanks

Hi Anton,

Learn SAP MM in Pvt Institute, Instead of going for SAP Certification, Because you already have domain experience into MM. Then you attend an inteviews. If you get selected work atleast 3yrs to gain good exposure into SAP MM. Then go for SAP Certification.

Hi Richard,

I think all your previous query's answered by the above peoples.... But i want to add somemore points.

Request you to look some more points below which would always hit my mind to give better route.

1, if I can pay 4 to 5 lakh hardly for SAP MM certified course does it worth for my future?

:- How important is SAP certification for you.:-

Once upon a time in SAP there was a market by knowing the TCode or SAP Enduser they were taking into Junior Consultant role. But nowadays its became very competitive in market you need to know a lot in the subject and also basic entry became by having the certification in hand.

Anyhow if you have plan for Certification that will be better idea then go for SAP MM according to your domain experience and regarding market openings there are lot of MM& SD Consultant with certified searching job in market but comparatively you have domain experience in your organisation which will be added credits to your cv.

But still my advise would be before going to Certification you do the ground study about the Module and try to practice more scenario based on the concept wise for atleast 6 months by this mean time you will understand the market situation also whether to proceed for certification or not.

Regarding SAP MM Certification from ATOS good choice but where ever you go for training try to look out the availability of Exp. trainer should meet your expectation aswell ☺....

Since you already aware about the present status.. Now its became bit tuff due to slowdown of the job market in India…which iam highlighting about present situation...

But i would like to tell some Do and Dont's here to all SAP Aspirants...

1, Don't ever resign from your existing job for studies. Today the world is very competitive so train your self to sail on multiple boats simultaneously.

2. Don't put all your investments nor into borrowings for investing into further studies your current earnings should be the source of investment into it.

3. Do keep 51% reserve for your fate and do your best for rest of 49% as even after putting your best efforts there is no assurance of success as your luck always runs faster than you.

After completion of your certification its not really sure about you will get job within a month or within quarter year. Its all about the opportunity in market aswell as your Complete knowledge in subject Plus your fate + YOUR PATIENCE.....

I hope your cleared some how about the present case...

So All the best ☺☺!!!

Thanks

Nayeem...

Hi Richard,

I have 8+ years of experience in engineering department where I handle engineering drawings, vendor management (Purchase Specification preparation, Technical Evaluation of offers & Technical recommendation for procurement department), Project engineering (for a small project). I too acted as a core team member (for MM module, representing Engineering) for SAP implementation in my company.

You have good experience levels to understand business process very much, MM is basically a Core module of SAP anyone can graduate into. If you really looking for a best opportunity in SAP consulting (after a stint of 8 yrs core exp) go for an Advance Module like SRM or APO (these are part of SCM).

I had inquired with ATOS and Tespa i for certification in MM module. I too was aware about the fact that the intial entry in the SAP world is not easy.

Certification is a best bet to get into SAP path for an ice breaker, but be wise in taking decision looking at the span of career ahead in SAP and the amount of Fee you are going to spend for Certification. And a BIG YES if you choose for advance modules as SAP career (remember Certification will not fetch a ready occupy JOB).

how difficult it will be to enter the SAP race? How is SAP market now (esp in India)?

SAP is best in ERP Market because of its robust integration, you can take 100% as no other ERP can capture the market. In India SAP is still in blooming phase.

Good luck for your new Career .
