Hi some of my friends are saying that SAP ABAP  will be outdated in some years since SAP allowed java for development. Do i need to learn java stack to thrive in the industry  ? I am confused.

Hi,

no need to be confused, ABAP will never be replaced by Java, that's simply not possible. Just look at the tons of ABAP coding being in production.

Have a look at this great blog about FAQs: Java vs. ABAP Programming Careers by @Thomas Dulaney:

http://scn.sap.com/community/career-center/blog/2012/04/11/faq-java-vs-abap-programming-careers

Besides that, I've read somewhere ( unhappily can't find the source again ), that SAP is putting the focus back from Java to ABAP.

Regards,

Dirk

Hi

it is not the correct forum to post this question, but SAP is having its own identity and ABAP is a key module witout which devlopment cannot be done.

. Sorry BTW.. I work in ABAP Web Dynpro and SAP ABAP. I am planning to change the company now. My friends are freaking me out that without Java knowledge, it s hard to get a suitable profile.

The question is answered i guess,

but again to consolidate to what all experts said.

ABAP has to stay, it was tryed out, as you heard, ABAP and Java will co-exist,

but dnot forget, even the best car benz gets an upgrade,...............

the best mobile phone gets an upgrade,

why dnot you get an upgrade,  top class ABAPer + Java

your market value will increase
