SAP Labs Hungary was established in May 2005. Today, more than 230 employees work in the pleasant environment of Graphisoft Park in Budapest. Development is accompanied by the Global Support Center and Field department, making up a campus of nearly 600 SAP colleagues. At SAP Hungary the synergy of the technical expertise of development, the service attitude of customer support and the business know-how of the Field organization makes the location unique.
Being a mid-size development location also enables our Lab to swiftly implement breakthrough technologies and innovative processes. For instance our location was a front-runner in applying Lean, agile software engineering and Design Thinking methodologies. The new strategic direction of SAP is vividly discussed by colleagues from various LoBs and product areas to realize the simplification idea to play an active part in the continuing success of SAP.
At Labs Hungary, the main activities are Application Innovation, Mobile Platform and IMS. Additional activities are within Globalization.
Application Innovation Suite Engineering (AI) is the largest development team of the lab in Hungary. The mission of the AI organization is to re-invent Enterprise software on HANA through simplification, cloud deployment and breakthrough user experience to drive real value for our customers. The highly innovative team in Budapest provides since 2005 best-in-class solutions for SAP’s Business Suite and Mobile Applications. Our colleagues are frontrunners
in designing and delivering new user experience for Supply Chain Management (SCM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Mobile solutions in co-innovation with lighthouse customers and partners of SAP across the globe. We drive user-centric design and continuously improve the efficiency of our process by integrating methods and working techniques of lean, agile and design thinking.
SAP customers and partners can rapidly design cost-effective, innovative apps with the most open and standards-based mobile application development platform, SAP Mobile Platform. Using this platform, it is possible to implement secure, scalable, easily manageable, user-centric mobile apps that can leverage both industry standards (such as Open Data, REST, HTML 5, Apache Cordova) and a variety of technologies and platforms (such as web / native / hybrid, iOS / Android, on-premise or cloud). SAP Mobile Platform (or SMP) is the successor of the widely respected and used Sybase Unwired Platform and Syclo Agentry Platform products.
The SMP development team within SAP Labs Hungary plays a key role in enhancing the functionality of this platform with new features in the mobile client SDK (Software Development Kit) area, as well as enabling the success of SAP customers and partners via helping them use SAP Mobile Platform in order to create great mobile business applications.
Installed Base Maintenance and Support (IMS) is a global organization within Application Innovation unit supporting SAP's customers for all products in mass shipment. SAP has built up this development unit in Hungary to be able to offer enhanced services to customers running mature releases.
The lifecycle of a SAP-product has 3 phases, first phase focuses on definition and design in the second phase development, testing and stabilization happens, and in the third phase when products are in mass shipment the focus is on maintenance, small improvements and services. IMS is responsible for the last phase, in which customers need customer focused maintenance and services. The Hungarian teams are responsible mainly for SCM (Supply Chain Management) products, like: APO (Advanced Planner Optimizer), SNC (Supply Network Collaboration), EWM (Extended Warehouse Management), TM (Transportation Management).
SAP Labs Hungary also hosts Globalization Services. Every global business solution must support both global processes and local business practices and laws: this means
supporting the corporate language and the group currency, in addition to local languages, local business processes and legal requirements, local currencies, local time zones, and local formats. This local team focuses on functional localization of SAP ERP Human Capital Management for Great-Britain, Hungary, Ireland, Poland and Slovakia. By implementing, maintaining and improving the localized country versions, based on local best practices and legal requirements, the team’s main purpose is to continuously enable customers to use the product at greatest customer value in an evolving local legal environment.
SAP Labs is seeing a massive growth this year. According to our plan, SAP is dedicated to hire the most talented university students and fresh graduates
in Hungary, and to strengthen SAP’s employer brand in Hungary. In order to accomplish that, our University Alliances is building strategic partnerships
with universities, and our colleagues from every department are organizing SAP courses, attending professional days.
SAP’s University Alliances Program has officially started in Hungary in 2009. At the Kick-Off Meeting four universities signed an agreement on the cooperation with SAP, and the university and SAP representatives planted a tree together, beside the SAP building, as a sign of the future cooperation. Since then further 6 universities joined the program.
SAP Hungary is also seeing vivid non-work related programs and initiatives. On the one hand, colleagues are organizing popular geeky events, for instance Programming Competition, Geeks’ Challenge, or PLUGin. On the other hand, the company also would like to improve the work-life balance of the colleagues, and offers many sport and recreational activities. No matter if you are an enthusiastic runner or a passionate football player, you will find the SAP team to join. Just to name a few, on May 31, 30 colleagues will cycle around Lake Balaton and also 30 colleagues who will run the 212 km in 3 teams in relay. Last week, the SAP football team won the Business Champions League out of 110 teams from Budapest – congratulation guys! :smile:
There are also many ways to engage in volunteering as SAP Labs Hungary is involved in various corporate social responsibility activities. As a highlighted program, we are supporting and mentoring four motivated but deprived Roma students: two of them are already entered to university.
We are striving to minimize our carbon footprint, and grow a green office culture, so we are proud to receive the „Greenest Large Office 2013” at the first European Green Office Award ceremony in Brussels. SAP Labs Hungary also won the „Best Workplace for Women” award in 2008 and was ranked by Hewitt among the top 30 attractive companies in Hungary for fresh graduates in 2009. In 2011 SAP Labs Hungary was awarded with the CSR Best Practice Award as the only company from the Hungarian IT sector. In 2013, we are awarded with the SuperBrands award, for the sixth year in a row.
... so thats why SAP Labs Hungary is still so fascinating to me, because here I talk with brilliant people every day, we create cool things and so together we drive the innovation for our customers further.
