In October, SAP Labs France launched the 1st French d-shop with the presence of Julien Vayssiere, in charge for the d-shop program globally @SAP, and Jean Namour, representing of the City of Mougins, Hanno Klausmeier, President of SAP Labs France.

The d-shop is a global grassroots program that brings IoT technologies closer to all SAP employees. There are already 11 active in the world and 5 opening soon. There are D-shop in Palo Alto, Newtown Square, Ontario, Sao Leopoldo, Walldorf, Markdorf, Sofia, Budapest, Sophia Antipolis, Moscow, Shanghai, Gurgaon and Bangalore, with more locations coming later in 2015. We are expecting a second d-shop to open very soon in France in the Tour SAP. Keep posted!

What is SAP d-shop?

The name d-shop is short for “developers’ workshop”. You can think of d-shop as SAP’s internal “makerspace”: a place to experience devices, understand technologies, learn how to get started hands-on and mingle with like-minded colleagues.

It is a priority for SAP Labs France to stimulate the innovation culture. The d-shop offers such an innovation space to all employees with a specific focusing on IoT & Security. The technologies covered include electronic platforms for building connected devices such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi and Beagle Bone, as well as 3D printers, wearable devices, augmented reality and virtual reality devices, robotics and sensor networks.  And, of course, we can advise on how to best connect all those devices to SAP platforms and SAP applications.

The D-shop @SLF

The d-shop team and Julien run 3 days of workshops & demo on Arduino technologies, Raspberry PI, 3D printer. All the workshops had a great success with a full attendance. Employees had the opportunity to discover & learn the basics of IoT technologies. Employees are free to come during opening hours to explore more what they have learn during the workshop, experiment, be creative and implement their own project. The space has been design as a collaborative space with high table, printable & magnetic walls, and bean bags….

The room has totally different look from the other office space to disconnect from work and foster employee creativity. This space is also for co-innovation project with our partners, and link it with other internal initiative oriented on innovation. We are also building bridges with the Executive Briefing Center in the Parisian Tour SAP, the Market Unit, GSS and the Development in France. The idea is to create the best conditions to innovate with customers bringing all together SAP capacities in France, from developers to consulting: all MADE SAP!
