Something amazing happened yesterday. Team SAP just helped to save millions of lives.
- Did you know that 29 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes, and 86 million have pre-diabetes?
- Did you know that every 17 seconds somebody is diagnosed with Diabetes, and every day 55 Americans go blind because of diabetes?
On Sunday, June 7, Team SAP participated in the annual Silicon Valley Tour de Cure, a charitable cycling fundraising event to benefit the American Diabetes Association.
At 25 riders strong, Team SAP spent their Sunday riding their bikes and supporting the ADA in its fight to find a cure for diabetes. The weather was spectacular, there were no injuries, and only 1 person got a flat tire. It doesn’t get better than that.
Collectively as a team:
- We rallied around a serious cause to try to put an end to a dreadful disease
- We raised $25,612, exceeding our goal of $25,000, placing us in the #5 position for corporate teams (and Oracle didn’t even make the top 10 leaderboard)
- We rode 1,122 miles
- We climbed 75,162 feet (that’s like climbing Mt. Everest over 2 times)
This really is a team effort requiring personal sacrifice and dedication to the cause, and in the end it all pays off. Training together, fundraising together, riding in the event together, and crossing the finish line together is clearly a formula for success, and it is the only way we can even begin to eradicate diabetes.
I would like to thank our corporate sponsors steve.lucas2 and scott.leatherman for their support and contribution to the team. I would like to thank sanjeev.agarwal for providing photography services at the event, and I would like to thank cheryl.smith for her help in planning and organizing this event.
