The priority of SAP Corporate Social Responsibility in China is to equip China youth with innovation & IT tools they need to tackle society’s problems and thrive digital economy. SAP and Youchange Foundation have formed a long-term strategic partnership from 2013 aiming to nurture Chinese youth with innovation, social responsibility and entrepreneurship, through Star-up Cafe, the project to provide massive on-line courses to university students for the provision of education of entrepreneurship and the skills needed to star one’s own business. This program also includes a Train the Trainer part through Design Thinking and seed fund to inspire star-up business actions.
In 2016, SAP will grant 5 final winning student teams with RMB 30,000 each as the Youth Entrepreneurship Seed Fund. With such funding, the students will be able to make their dreams come true. Youchange Foundation invites 30 SAP employee volunteer as judges for the Round 1 evaluation (Qualifying Round) to evaluate the proposals, and I was fortunate to participate in this event as a group leader.
In our group, I and other 8 team members, read and evaluated 7 business proposals together. I was really shocked by the spirit of innovation and social responsibility of these young people. For example, one proposal is to develop traditional folk crafts. Combined with tourism routes, through selling national products and learning the manual work, to arouse public interest and attention in national traditions. With the progress of society, more modern, more intelligent, people can enjoy the convenience brought by machine. But at the same time, we should pay attention to the protection of traditional culture. In the wave of globalization, the protection of traditional culture of various ethnic groups is of great significance to the maintenance of the world cultural diversity. Any nation in the world, abandoning national cultural traditions means losing their feature, they will lose its position in the world of nations, even losing its influence to international politics. However, protecting traditional culture doesn't mean simple inheritance. Innovation, such as binding with tourism, is intended to revitalize traditional culture and creatively blend in to the modern.
According to the process, we gave score to each proposal and provided feedback after individual evaluation.
While evaluating each proposal and following the rating criteria strictly to score, we deeply appreciate the entrepreneurial enthusiasm, business sense and the sense of social responsibility from those youths. With SAP's support, we hope their dreams will come true and more and more young people can join us.
To myself, I also broadened my horizons and learnt a lot from this experience. I also expanded my connections while working with other colleagues. I really enjoyed this activity and look forward to participating in more and more such kind of social activities in the future.
