One of the great things about working in a global organization is having the opportunity to speak to colleagues around the world about their Life at SAP. My name is Heather Walker and I recently had the opportunity to speak to a group of women from all careers levels in the Nordics about their careers, and what drives them. One of those women was Helle Dochedahl who has been with SAP for 25 years!

Back in 1993 Helle spotted an SAP advert in a newspaper in Denmark which asked for ‘consultants that can help sales people’. The location of Copenhagen and the product were enough of a draw for her and she applied. Fast forward to 2018 and Helle is now Vice President for EMEA South for the Center of Excellence and Presales.

“SAP is a super company in enabling people, I have had all possibilities to get training in content, business, trends, leadership, coaching and more. The company gives many opportunities to be successful although it is very important that you yourself take responsibility for your own success.

In addition to the professional opportunities I have been given, I was also able to participate in a sabbatical program where I worked for an NGO in Bangalore’s slum region.

I love the culture of SAP. It is a place where individuals are respected and your colleagues are very supportive. I have had a couple of very hard times in my private life, and my colleagues were a great support to get me through. I knew I could rely on them and they were standing up for me. I have also taken on some challenging tasks in my time here, and when I ask for support it has been there.

Outside of work I love to travel, take long walks, play golf, read books and listen to Ted Talks. I also have two sons, aged 22 and 25 who have gone on to study medicine and business economics. I am very proud of them.”

To close, I asked Helle about her best moments at SAP:

“Some of the best moments are when I see we have given value to customer companies and employees. Another part is internally, when I see one of my employees develop in big steps either within their role or on to another role.”
