What are you passionate about at SAP?
Besides being part of the best team at SAP, I am passionate about creating engagement and excitement surrounding the wonderful programs my team and I bring to SAPsv. In 2015, we’ve had six influential TED speakers on campus–external people would give anything to see Peter Diamandis, Pico Iyer, Temple Grandin, Amy Cuddy, Jessica Jackley, and Alan Kay and we have them talking to our SAPsv employees exclusively–how cool is that?! Additionally, and most recently, I enjoy teaching employees across Silicon Valley campuses, as well as the globe, how to best utilize SAP Jam and produce outstanding work to help set them apart from their peers. What’s your favorite thing about SAP?
No questions asked, it’s the people. I love seeing familiar faces around the campuses when I visit from Houston, but I also love meeting new people. I love the energy, the enthusiasm, the wit and humor, the smarts, the drive, and the love SAP employees have for not only the company, but for one another. I am also a huge fan of the diversity across our campuses. I’ve never worked at a company before that had so much diversity. It’s fun to learn about others, where they came from, and what their culture is all about. If you could travel back in time, which year would you travel to and why?
Bring me to the 1960s and 70s, please. The clothes, the cars, the music (except for Elvis), and the simplicity of life is extremely appealing to me. These decades were also a breakthrough period for social movements and organizations, and an era full of tremendous and powerful leaders and advocates, including President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X. I would have loved to live during this time to experience these outstanding moments in U.S. history. Which celebrity would you like to meet at Starbucks for a cup of coffee and why?
If you know me, you know my all-time favorite actor is Jim Carrey. Ever since I saw him in "Dumb & Dumber" on December 24, 1995 with my family, I’ve been hooked. As a softball pitcher for years I got the nickname, “Ace”, because I would imitate him while on the pitching mound. I’m not sure I would even be able to lift my coffee cup without spilling it because my nerves would take over. I would like to think I would have a deep conversation with him about his personal life and his thoughts on life. I was absolutely blown away with his commencement speech he gave at Maharishi University of Management in May 2014; a perfect balance of comedy and deep insights. | What are you passionate about at SAP?
I am most passionate about the opportunity to make a difference in the world. Not every person can say they work for a company that has the ability to impact, improve, and change people’s lives on a global scale. Not only does our technology better the lives of others, but our people take an active role to give back as well. In 2015, I was lucky to participate in numerous SAPsv programs whose purpose was to better the community, and the world. These included Month of Service, St. Baldrick’s, and the Pride Parade in SF, just to name a few. In 2016, I will look for more ways to give back and create positive change in the world. What’s your favorite thing about SAP?
SAP Silicon Valley is an incredible place to work, learn, and develop as a young professional. I have witnessed first-hand the endless possibilities and opportunities that are available to all employees, advancing my career at SAP from an intern to now leading a communications team. The opportunity for growth within SAP is vast, and the emphasis on personal development is highly valued and encouraged. There are an abundance of tools, classes, and programs available; you just need to make it a priority. What is the best placed you’ve traveled to and why?
Australia. Best overall traveling experience I’ve ever had. It was a combination of watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks off the Sydney Harbor (Harbour, if you’re an Aussie) Bridge, scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef, the beauty of the Whitsunday Islands, the numerous wrong turns while driving from Cairns to Brisbane (driving on the other side of the road, and the car), going broke and eating PB&J’s for three days, and learning about my newfound passion for the didgeridoo. Australia is a beautiful country with incredible places to explore and people to meet. I’ll look forward to visiting again someday soon. What’s on your bucket list?
To run with the bulls in Spain. While taking Spanish classes in college, and preparing for my semester abroad in Spain, I studied a great deal about the Spanish culture and traditions, including San Fermín, the annual festival in Pamplona, España. Since learning about the festival–dubbed as Spain’s largest fiesta–it has become my number one bucket list item. And with that, I am excited (and a little nervous) to say that I will be running with the bulls in 2016. Flights are booked, so wish me luck, or buena suerte. Any running shoe suggestions? | What are you passionate about at SAP?
Being part of a team that enables employees to enjoy working for SAP. Working for such a big, successful company, it is easy to get stuck behind your computer and forget what a great environment you work in. Creating a diverse set of opportunities that cover a variety of topics inside and outside of SAP ensures that employees can engage in programs that align with a personal interest. When employees take the time to participate in these programs, they are able to return to their work re-focused, re-energized and with more motivation to deliver impactful results for SAP. It’s an awesome thing to be a part of. What’s your favorite thing about SAP?
The people. Hands down. For me, the environment in which I work makes a huge difference in job satisfaction. I am fortunate that every day I have people on my team and at every SAPsv campus that are a positive presence in my life and remind me why the hard work I’m putting in is worth it. If you had to describe yourself as an animal, which one would it be and why?
I would absolutely describe myself as a giraffe. Not only are giraffes my favorite animal, we have a lot of similarities! Giraffes are tall, lanky, awkward, and have the coolest spots. Since I don’t have the spots to match a giraffe’s, I am sure to wear my giraffe onesie around the house (and at work) every chance I get to feel connected to my spirit animal. What is your favorite color?
PINK! I love everything pink! Not only is it bright and girly, but, for me, it represents happiness. My entire room is painted pink and my whole cubicle at work is covered in it. My friends and family are always buying or sending me pictures of pink things because they are reminded of me. Pink really is the best color because I can always rely on it to make me smile. |
